Positive section of review
It was very handy for visiting friends, so the general location was spot on for us. The property was large, airy and clean, with all the facilities that were needed for our overnight stay. The shower was hot and powerful and the bed was comfy. The kitchen looked well stocked with utensils however we didn't do any cooking, so couldn't comment further. On-street parking was also easy, with a village square opposite, for extra parking. The value for money was excellent. There were a couple of local pubs and we ate at The Bridge End, which was absolutely delicious.

It was a little confusing getting the keys as there was a letter box next to the door detailing number 22, also with a key lock box, which we thought was for the property. We did manage to work it out in the end, although it did detail that there was a sticker on one of the keys detailing for which lock, which wasn't the case. The outside door was also very stiff to open. The main problem was the road noise, which was a split between cars/ lorries/ tractors. This was very loud and we did not get much sleep, which was unfortunate, as we would have definitely stayed again. Just 1 other suggestion would be to screen the large window in the hall way, as it overlooked other residences and was a bit off putting as it wasn't private, walking from the bathroom to the bedroom. Minor detail, but worth adding some verticle blinds, for more privay.

Amazing location, probably the best in York! super friendly staff, lovely restaurant & cute/quaint rooms. We actually liked that the parking was away from the hotel. Most of the tiny streets around the hotel are blocked off for pedestrians during the day anyway and so it is much easier to be out of all of that. It took us only 7 or 8 minutes to walk to the hotel from the carpark. We didn’t find it a hassle at all. Also the restaurant is super busy so make sure you book before your stay. We did, as recommended, and were glad!

We booked a standard room, so the bed was a small double (husband 6ft4 so a tad small), also, our room faced the afternoon sun and although the temperature outside was quite mild, the room get very hot, and apart from a fan, there is no aircon so in the height of summer, if you don’t like the heat, it would be extremely uncomfortable. Also a minor thing, there was no hairdryer & that’s a basic expectation these days. If you have mobility issues considerations are the stairs (all rooms are only accessible by stairs) and car park.

Beautiful decor inside, splendid gardens, the ambiance relaxing, a very welcoming hotel, the staff were all lovely & willing to help wherever possible. A good size gym with all the basics you would need, nice swimming pool & hot tub, the outdoor spa provided a choice of seating in both sun or shade including swing chairs & sofas, the pool wasn’t too cold & also had jets. A good choice of buffet breakfast, the lunch & dinner was superb.

It’s not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with difficulty walking, everywhere is only accessed by steps/stairs. There are no lifts & no ground floor rooms.

Room clean, comfortable, a good size and well supplied with "extras" (e.g. TV, hairdryer, shampoo, towels, information on local area) that a visitor might need. Friendly staff and a very helpful reception on arrival. Free WiFi. Excellent breakfast with a very wide choice of items.

Issues with dishwasher not working. Dishes and glasses were dirty when we arrived. Small dining table, hard for 4 people to seat and eat confortably.
