The hotel is situated in the grounds of a beautiful golf course and being outside of Edinburgh its a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast had good choice (however overpriced per person) and we did not have to wait like others have said in reviews. The pool area is clean and maintained and was nice to be able to enjoy the sauna and steam rooms at the end of the day after walking around. The room was clean however the decor is old.

Service at breakfast was poor especially on the first day. The server did not ask if we knew how everything worked, the young staff on the Monday just followed each other around. took 20 minutes before anyone asked whether we would liked cooked eggs or tea. Did improve on Tuesday as there was someone different in control of the seating. Was asked if we knew the processes and staff were more alert. The Brassiere restaurant food is poor, £19 for a pizza that was undercooked and appeared to resemble a microwave pizza. The £14 macaroni cheese had no taste and was clearly a ready meal that had been warmed up. The pillows are poor and very soft and on first day requested extra which never materialised. The room itself is spacious but very outdated. The toilet your unable to lift the seat without holding due to poor fitting, the small fridge is set at a temperature that is barely cold and cannot be adjusted. I feel that the hotel is focused more on the golf courses and 1 nights stays instead of guests wanting to stay multiple nights. Heavily catered towards international guests and this is reflected in the prices of the food. An example on my way up from London I stayed in a Premier Inn which was £89 for the night. They provide air con, spare pillows and towels and also in bathroom they provided small toiletries. Breakfast there was half the price for the same selection

Shower was good.

Room was far too warm, floors were dirty, bed was not wide enough, and the outside light was far too bright all night and the lack of blackout curtains meant the room was really illuminated.

Broken lift. Someone got trapped in it just before we got in it. Hairdryer electric cable faulty. Waited 45 for a hairdryer. I had to ring 4 times and go to reception. Late going to concert as had to wait for it.
