Welcome note and sweets were a bonus! The tv had different apps and channels which was nice when unwinding the evening. The location is perfect - a couple minutes walk into town and right next to a beautiful park

Durrants Hotel is centrally located but feels like a country house. The service is excellent. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful.

The outdoor swimming pool was lovely - slightly tired around the edges, but really nice

We booked a suite for the night. Firstly the TV didn’t work - no biggie, but slight hassle having to call down and ask someone to come and fix it, which they did. The door bell on the room didn’t work, so we only heard it on the second attempt. We found a half bag of eaten sweets in one of the cupboards - again no biggie, but slight red flag. I had travelled from London and didn’t get into the room until late - they were serving cold sandwiches on room service only after 9PM, again no massive biggie, but again another red flag. Room service arrives, serving a basic sandwich which was fine, but with a USED pot of mayonnaise that someone else had demolished. When I complain to room service they send someone back up to collect the used mayo jar at which point they ask if I want a new one…? Very odd and very disgusted that they had sent me someone else’s used mayo. Anyway, next morning I go down to check out and mention #mayogate to the front desk. The receptionist (I think the head one) had said that she had already investigated my complaint and apparently the mayo was in fact taken from a brand new box, so it was a supplier issue…. Hmmm. At this point I felt like they were insinuating that I had planted the used mayo which is absolutely ridiculous. The receptionist, who clearly hates customers by the way basically shut me down and barely apologised. No reduction on the £7 room service fee even although I’d spent over £600 in one night. Crazy customer service which left me really feeling disappointed with the whole experience. I mean surely to god, if I had managed to eat in the restaurant and the same thing happened I would have been offered a free meal or something??! Crazy. Anyway, moral of the story is - don’t think for a minute just because it’s a five star hotel and you’ve spend a fortune that if you complain about various things they will actually care.

Location is excellent and hotel will be attractive when refurbishment complete.

No fridge in room. Good breakfast heavily emphasised in Promotion but only slightly better than Travellodge and similar.
