We had an early morning flight back to Malta and decided to travel to Liverpool Airport the night before so that we could at least get 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep before the flight. This was achieved in great warmth and comfort in a very cosy self-catering annex on the ground floor at Gateway Lodge. Our host, June, could not have been more helpful and obliging in selecting our room. We were able to walk to the airport in around 15 minutes the next morning, arriving fresh and unflustered after our sleep. The private annex had everything we required, including a very comfortable bed, a modern bathroom (with a Shower unit), a well-equipped kitchen and a restful lounge area (with multi-channel TV). The bus stops to and from the airport and Liverpool City centre are located 4 mins from the accommodation.

The property is in a beautiful location and the room was really cosy, clean and warm. I love the fact it’s kept some old features of the beams as well. The service was very personal and I was called by my first name which I thought was a very personal touch. I felt very welcome there as well. The food was excellent and of good quality. I particularly enjoyed my steak which was cooked to perfection. The banana dessert was really enjoyable as well. The sausages and bacon were particularly tasty too.

There isn’t anything I didn’t like about the property. The only thing which is a minor thing is that my breakfast went a bit cold whilst I was sorting out toast etc… I think it’s great that when I got to my table the breakfast was being served it just took me around 5 mins or so to do my toast and tea etc… so I would’ve liked that 5 mins to sort out my drink and toast before it being served.

Conveniently located for me just off the M6, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. food choice was adequate and was well cooked. Would happily stay again

Bathroom shower is a bit tight (and that was an upgraded room) and the TV just switched itself on during the night which was a bit spooky (this also happened to another guest which we had a laugh about over breakfast regarding the friendly ghost).
