We were given an upgrade on arrival which was unexpected and the room was nice and spacious, lovely bathroom and toiletries and all lovely and clean! I appreciated the large dressing table and mirror with more than enough sockets in sensible places! All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, couldn’t have been more so!

Unfortunately the bed in the room was very uncomfortable - very bad ‘roll together’! I think it probably needs to be replaced. The bedding and pillows were great but they couldn’t make up for the mattress unfortunately. We found there was a lot of outside noise even with the window closed but we know that isn’t something the hotel can do anything about and it’s a compromise being in a good location.

Breakfast was good. Buffet hot and cold. One member of staff was lovely in the dining room. Made sure everyone knew what they were doing and checked with guests to ask if all OK. Loved the old building. Felt like stepping back through time.

At online check in ordered dinner for 2 but when we arrived it obviously didn't go through and no availability so had to go elsewhere to eat. Probably better to phone to reserve.

The bar staff were ace. The young member of staff (blonde, universty student) running the bar and restaurant was exceptional. Funny, professional, and clearly an asset to your business

Disappointing that breakfast did not start serving until 8:00. Had to be up, out and on the road for 7:45 so missed breakfast. Was given a breakfast bag which was very very poor. Lacked quality and imagination not very appetising at all. Pool and spa facilities showing signs of age, needs some TLC maintenance. children’s “splash time” was 15:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs, although staff less accommodating to paying guests seemed to prioritise private members needs rather than paying guests needs.Staff made a derogative about children being in the pool and warning me about being disturbed by these said children. Unbeknown to him it was my children he was referring too.

We asked for a room upstairs so that we could open the windows. Unfortunately on our first night we were given a room on the ground floor and while the window did open, it was necessary to leave the blind down so we didn’t get the benefit of the open window. With the blind open the light outside that shone all night, was very annoying. The wonderful staff did move us to a first floor room for our second night but sadly the sash windows were not accessible - a plastic screen was in front of every window - so it wasn’t possible to open any window. Pity!

The room was a little small. Dogs or rather the owners not keeping their pets away from me. Why do pet owners think everyone adores other people's pets?
