When guests stay at the property they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff are and more.

Good location, outside Brighton but very easy to shuffle in and out by car. Very close to the newly refurbished Saltdean Lido which looks fantastic (but we didn't have time for a swim.) The decoration was completely fresh and bright and enhanced by many well-chosen and interesting pictures and objets d'art on the walls created a nice personal vibe which made you feel more on holiday than a typical hotel room. The "pocket garden" was tiny, but interesting, fun, and warm in the sun - great for breakfasts. Small tokens of bottle of milk and a large bottle of water in the fridge was thoughtful and welcome.

Having the shower (a very nice shower) in what was in effect the breakfast area was... quirky, but wasn't a problem. The areas for making drinks and having the fridge behind a cupboard door was rather cramped, but once again quirky rather than problematic.

I liked the location and the price, knowing we will not be spending much time in so convinced the group (3 rooms / 6 ppl altogether) to stay in this hotel to save on expense. Our expectations were quite low from the outset, but the stay was much worse than expected. However, I liked the building (architecture is stunning and liked the untouched foyer with multiple levels and landing, still original Victorian and not touched since 60-70s probably, but in a very good condition for what it is.

I think anyone can put up with a tired looking hotel as long as staff is polite and helpful and rooms are clean. Staff was hard work and rooms were not clean enough and had some issues related to the fact they are very dated. To expand on it a bit: We had issues at check in - we asked for rooms near to each other and they weren't - staff just allocated it on a random. Our first room was on the same floor, but opposite wing. When we walked in it was evident someone was smoking in it. We asked for a new room which was accommodated and our next room was closer to our friends room than the first one so in the opposite wing and near by, third room ended up on a different floor all together, so clearly no effort was made to keep our rooms close despite Friday being the day of mass check ins and it was easy to accommodate as ppl next door to us checked in at the same time as us for example. All 3 rooms had constant issues with cards not working so we spent a lot of time getting it sorted in reception and it was very frustrating and got us late to an event we attended as our tickets we in one of the rooms. No open wifi in current day and time - absolute joke. ID checks at nights policed by 2 scary security guys were somehow the weirdest thing we ever experienced and all 6 of us felt weird as we began to worry what must be going on in the hotel if there is such security measure introduced at night. only 2 tiny lifts in such huge hotel - one not worked. Very inconvenient. The only reason it is not a 0.0 but 2.0 rating is the fact that location is central and bedding and towels were clean/fresh.

It’s a good clean property, also centrally situated.

Since this is a conversion of the offices of an erstwhile daily, into a hotel, some rooms are located in a place where there are no windows. This can be pretty claustrophobic. It is important to check which room before you book. Secondly the property charges extra breakfast for walk-ins. While this is understood, the premium on a walk in is very high. £16.25 against £10!

Worst hotel I’ve ever been to. The staff was rude and unprofessional. Me and other people had to wait an hour after check in time because apparently the rooms weren’t available yet. During this time reception never apologised and said this could happen, that from 3pm doesn’t mean the rooms have to be ready at that time. Once we finally got into our room, there were 4 people inside just chatting which we thought was very unprofessional. The double room we paid for didn’t have a double bed, but instead they joined two single beds into one and called it a double bed. We had to sleep with a hole between us which was very uncomfortable. Water was not suitable for consumption and they were rationing the water cans. At 9 am the alarm started for no reason and continued for 15 minutes. Again staff was very rude when we enquired about not having a double bed like we paid for but two single beds - saying it was normal and they usually do this.
