Our room had a large balcony with sea view which was not requested. So, this was a lovely surprise. The bar/lounge/dining and outside areas were all really nice. Lots of space to eat/drink or relax. The food choice was good with vegetarian options. Dinner and breakfast were buffet style. So, easy to plate your meals as desired. Also, the room hired for our Pearl wedding anniversary was really well decorated and added to the experience. All the staff were really hard working and friendly. The hotel is within walking distance of the Bournemouth Pavilion, Oceanarium, beach, garden and shops, and more!

Our room was dated and smaller compared to the rest of the group we booked for. The safe did not work and the bed had a wheel missing, so was slightly lopsided. But, thankfully it held! The shower glass did not contain the water from the overhead shower when showering. So, I had to ensure towels were in place beforehand. But, there was also an alternative hand held shower head. However, renovations were ongoing at the hotel and an injection of money is available for further updates. So, I am sure that these factors will be resolved. There was an issue with our booking. Some of the rooms booked were not showing as having been allocated. My heart sank at this. It took about an hour, but the receptionist and reception manager both managed to get this sorted in the end. However, it did slightly mar our stay and gave me some anxiety.

The hotel is in an ideal location for a visit to Chester City Centre. The rooms are ideal size and comfortable for a short break or overnight stop. The bathroom was clean and modern. The staff were welcoming and friendly and very, very helpful. We will return.

Lovely old historic building with wobbly walls and uneven floors which are charming. Staff were very friendly and helpful and helped us store our bicycles safely. They also arranged an earlier breakfast to suit us.

As other reviewers highlight, it's needing a bit of TLC. The bathroom was tatty and the bathroom radiator was jammed on in the summer, so we had to shut the bathroom door and open our window. There was one tiny sachet of shower gel between two of us. Friends staying also had issues with their bathrooms.

The owners are lovely. The room was well-appointed and had everything I needed for a few days. Camelford is very convenient for getting to other places of greater interest.
