Upstairs is a great space with a large bed, loads of storage, modern bathroom and lovely balcony facing the harbour. There’s water, coffee and basic supplies provided, Efthymios picked up and dropped off for the ferry plus he helped arrange a hire car and provided maps and advice. The sea, port and shops are very close and Chora and beyond a short drive. All in all it was perfect and I loved my stay.”

  The "hotel" was clean and comfortable. The location is good. Kirkwall has a wide selection of eating places and some great visitor attractions.

  This is no longer a hotel: it is an annex to the Kirkwall Hotel further along the harbourfront. The bar and dining facilities are no longer available: if you want a meal or drink you have to trek along to the Kirkwall Hotel, or look elsewhere, whatever the weather. None of this was made clear in the description of the place. Check-in was at the Kirkwall Hotel (where else) where you were given a set of keys and had to let yourself in to the Shore and find your own way to your room. There were no on-site staff to provide help and/or advice. The bedroom was compact but reasonable. However there were no windows to speak of. There were 2 skylights giving no view (but which let in lots of daylight from 4.00am onwards) and a small 1ft by 2ft window giving a view onto an adjacent wall. The main room light could not be switched on/off from the bed - this could only be done from the switch by the door. All in all, a great disappointment. For £160 a night I expect a real hotel, not somewhere that lacks all basic facilities.
