Everything was fine/average besides the staff who were pretty awful. We were travelling to the south from Scotland and this was an overnight stop. We arrived around 9pm having driven in torrential rain and were so happy to have found a cosy looking pub/hotel.

There was no welcome when we arrived. All staff were stood around the bar. Then we were allocated a single room. Once we discovered this, we came down stairs and said it was the wrong room and thought it was an easy mistake to make as there’s plenty rooms and keys but I was rudely told it was the room I had booked. Worried he was right, I asked if I could get on the WiFi to check my booking and he told me to wait and “one thing at a time”. Once on the WiFi, I found I had booked a double/twin but he wasn’t trained on the hotel system (not his fault) so he wasn’t sure if they had anything else available so an off shift member of staff who was drinking at the bar came to help and eventually checked us in to a room. We shrugged it off and came back down for a wine before bed. It was almost 10pm but they didn’t seem happy to be serving this late so we had it quickly and went to bed. In the morning, we came to reception expecting to be told where to go for breakfast and we were ignored by the lady on shift. We were the only ones there. We asked if we could take a seat and she told us to order at the bar so we did. My breakfast was the avocado on toast. It was supposed to come with other things but didn’t. She said absolutely nothing to me at the bar, even when paying. No check back on food, no thank you, no how was your stay. I’ve worked in hospitality for 15 years ranging from pretty average places to 5 star and I’ve learned whatever training you may lack, you’ll be totally forgiven for if your manners and customer service are great. We found the whole thing quite funny because it was a v short stop off and the quality of the rooms were totally fine. Good actually. But it is sad that far better places are shut down and skilled people can’t get work when there’s this

Everything was poky and dirty Adding pics of sorry pillows And stained bedding Also mouldy shower And the bathroom shower was blocked water wouldn't go down Really disappointed at Martin mere reception staff. As I showed them the stained pillows bedding etc apparently because I was booked privately they couldn't help me at all

Great location down a country lane so very quiet. Good food, nice staff and a very comfortable room. The breakfast was cooked to order and I much prefer this in an hotel

The breakfasts were nice- very standard English breakfast. The room was adequate for our purposes; clean with a small selection of coffee and tea.

The shower drain was a bit slow and the curtains didn't do a great job of shutting out the street light illumination at night.

There was a shortage of comfortable seating. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable as were the dining chairs. The only comfortable place was the bed. There should have been a warning about the steepness of the stairs to the property. Very tricky especially with cases.
