I like the layout of the hotel and breakfast was exceptional , It was made to order and if there wasn't something on the menu you liked , the staff were happy to assist. We were on DBB and evening meals couldn’t fault any of them . Lovely meals and well presented. All staff very helpful and friendly. The garden and grounds were well maintained, lovely flowers and surroundings. There were chairs and lounges to sit out on when the weather was nice enough to do so . There was also a terrace area where you were able to sit out. Room was clean and tidy ,had all you needed . You were able to order a news paper daily. All staff at the hotel were very helpful and accommodating.

In our room the chair needed fixing. Seat cushion had been worn down and made a dent in the seat . This is maintenance work and I'm sure if I had reported it, something would have been done. Would have been nice to have 2 chairs in the room instead of one. I was looking forward to using the spa facilities. I didn’t like the lay out of the spa area and I thought there was a Jacuzzi but there was only a pool. Which was nice enough to swim in but wasn’t very big . So even with 3 or 4 people in made it seem crowded. Only went in once . Spa’s should feel like a relaxing area, didn't work for me. Ok if you only want a quick swim .

It was very, very clean, including the bedding and towels. The bed was comfortable and during my stay it was very quiet with no noise from outside (or indeed internally but that would, of course, depend on how busy it is and how noisy other guests are which can be a problem in any hotel or hostel). Best of all it's only a couple of minutes walk from the railway station (and bus station), and the main town. You will either love or hate the quirky interior. I loved it - once I got used to it!! The room I was allocated was on the third floor (no lift) but when I checked in I was asked if I would like my case carry up. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful

The outside and entrance doors need some TLC. It's unfortunate that people waiting for buses just outside the building, stand in the doorway, often smoking. A sign asking people not to might help. The reception area is unappalling and needs a complete refit. It does not give a good first impression of the interior. There is a hatch which looks to be made of plywood as were the 'shutters' put in place when the reception is closed. Very DIY. My immediate thought was that the floor was dirty but it was actually the colour patten of the floor tiles and it was clean. The lock on the bedroom door didn't lock from the inside. There were no cupboards, drawers or shelves (apart from a small one high up above the coat hangers space). There were some in the bathroom but no towel rails, or hooks, no grab handle in the shower, no bedside table although little space, a small one could be fitted in (no space on the other side of the double bed). The only TV channels with a signal were BBC1 & BBC2 (which often broke up). It was Very Cold. Presumably there was no heating at all because it was June but heating should depend on the weather not the time of year. The wet'ish hand towel was replaced the first morning but that was removed and not replaced (but to be fair I didn't ask for another one). Without heating the bath towel didn't dry out completely. Whilst the water for the sink got very hot, I couldn't get the water in the shower quite hot enough for comfort, despite attempts to adjust it. The glass in the windows was frosted so not possible so see out or to even check on the weather. Net curtains would be better

No lift to access floors ,and we was situated on top floor . Bedroom was on a slant as was the bed and all furniture making you feel like you was on a ship.
