Our room was newly refurbished - so newly refurbished that the corridor outside was full of workmen, tools, mattresses and furniture. One workman just let himself into our room while we were there. He was apologetic but it wasn’t acceptable really.

The staff not welcoming. On 12th/05/24, he lied to me that my booking was cancelled by booking.com. he had earier insisted that I pay directly. I came to find that he stated a no show up. NOT TRUE.

The location is fine for me as I need to be bnearby for work in the area occfasionally, the parkign is a bonus with the Red Lion as they have a large car park round the back

Ive stayed at the Red Lion on a number of occoasions but have usually had one of the annexe rooms, this time I was in the main building, I coiuld go on but the Hotel has great potential but in a nutshell, its getting ready for a refurb if I'm honest

It is a very handy position for the Oval. There is a nice relaxed, almost too laid back at times atmosphere and the Breakfast this time was excellent on both mornings.

It is high end priced. There can be quite a lot of noise outside. The Dray came at 6 o'clock so that was the end of that night's sleep. No doubt I am getting old but the music in the bar/restaurant was just too loud at one point and conversation became impossible. They did turn it down a notch to be fair. I am sure it does not worry others but there are so many offers for food and drink that it all gets pretty complicated and unnecessarily so resulting in a problem of overcharging though this was quickly sorted out later. Finally nearly £4 for a glass of orange Juice concentrate does seem pretty over the top.

Furniture in the bar needs attention as the arms of chairs are dirty and worn and needs some decent tables. Plus the sauce bottles need cleaning and the container cleaned . It was very busy and we had to wait a long while for food which was not really hot but warm
