Great breakfast. Staff were great with requests for changes in the menu. Meals were well presented and well cooked. Location was perfect for walking and swimming. Beautiful location with lovely views.

Not really a problem for us but the location meant that we were miles from any small food shops and finding a snack or sandwich for miday whilst out walking was an issue (to be fair we could have probably asked the staff and they would probably sorted out something).

Very nice hotel, comfortable room, great food and helpful staff. Will certainly visit again.

There was nothing in my opinion to criticise at all.

Wonderful building oozing with history. They don't make hotels like this anymore!
Negative section of review
The place appears to be suffering from a lack of investment, it's literally falling apart inside and out which is a shame given how grand it looks from a distance. I understand that it's a massive building for *only* 125ish rooms and the maintenance/upkeep costs must be astronomical. It could really do with a commited owner willing to invest for the long-term to really do it justice. Food - Breakfast was generally good apart from the scrambled(powdered) eggs that were tasteless and watery.

The restaurant was very nice, food was tasty and quick service.

The hotel had very cheap amenities but was the same price and a nice hotel. It seemed to have been done as cheap as possible but charge as much as possible to make profit. The rooms were small, had paper thin walls so you could hear every movement anyone else in the hotel made. The room had a chemically smell when we checked in, I’m guessing from it being cleaned. The drain from the shower also smelled. The bed was rock hard and very uncomfortable, i woke up with bad back pain each morning, the bed was also very cheap, it felt as though it was going to collapse when we laid on it. The breakfast was very basic and cheap for £8pp! The hotel seems overpriced for what it is, for the price, I would expect a lot better, comparing this to other hotels I have stayed in at the same price.

Excellent location and helpful staff
Negative section of review
Poor room - problems with the handbasin and shower. Dinner often overambitious, concentrating of the spices and thus overwhelming the delicate flavour of fish

The location and the period design.
