Old-style characterful traditional hotel - staff super friendly and helpful. A genuine level of service-with-a-smile one just does not encounter in larger corporate hotels! Compact single room with good amenities on the first floor with compact shower/WC ensuite. Complimentary tray with tea and mini-cafetière with ground coffee was a nice touch. Nice quality bed linen. Soft pillows were appreciated too. Good range of breakfast options on offer - served in traditional style breakfast room with beautifully laid tables and real linen napkings. Didn't use the in-house bar/restaurant but looked jolly enough in there. Convenient location for the railway station.

Poor night's sleep though as the mattress was far too soft and quite saggy: felt a little too much like a hammock. Perhaps a medium supportive mattress would suit more guests than an ultra soft one. Old-style hotel also means creaking floorboards, faded/tide-marked wallpaper, woodwork that could do with a lick of paint. Decor a little tired but in keeping with this being a historical hotel. The room was at the back of the building - 2 tall windows for daylight but a frosted-glass film had been applied so no view. Slighly "lived-in" smell in the room. Thankfully one of the sash windows could be opened for some fresh air but looked out on a rather neglected roofterrace and was also level with a rusty metal fire-escape... not sure it would be safe to leave the window open for long... Outer windowsill covered in pigeon-feathers etc.

Had to go out for all meals, tea & coffee tray in room. Stayed in 3 different rooms on various stays. Last one the shower room is across the hall near the front door, still no problems as did not meet anyone.

Super friendly staff (Dom and Elle) we were upgraded to a beautiful room free of charge - made my daughters stay 'the best ever!' Location perfect 👌

Wasn't aware / couldn't see any free from food at breakfast so limited my choice of things I could eat. What I was able to was fresh and tasty 😋 There was false lash strip still on the headboard of one of the beds and the dressing table mirror from previous guests.

Convenient location

Dust and cobwebs in the bedroom, the heated towel rail didn’t work and the plug hole in the shower was partially blocked by hair. Evening bar staff were excellent, but the food service was very slow. Indifferent service at breakfast, lukewarm food and some options needed refilling.

The property were next to pub and pub were really loud . If we don’t look when that was loud and bins were emptied 3 times late with empty glasses I really did not appreciate when gates were closed and opened so people would not get cought using DRUGS ! We showed up and property were not ready but that okey we have been given different apartment what we needed to change after a day because door handle fall off . Facilities were okey but beds were absolutely nerve racking as you moved you thought bed will brake in pcs .

Nearness to work.

The hotel needs to shut down and the building decommissioned completely. The surrounding is full of aged fittings, features and facilities that needs thorough modernisation. The drainage system exudes nasty smell that emanates directly from a sewage system. The beds are not comfortable and the table and chair are suitable for the kindergarten. The Wi-Fi is sometimes not available and heating system most times doesn’t function properly during the winter months. The hotel is a faulty tower waiting to be taken down.
