We were attending the Gateway to Southwell Folk Festival, this house was ideally placed in the town, 5 miles from the venue. The bed was super-comfortable, the kitchen superbly equipped.

The stairway to the living room was twisty and narrow, making it difficult to carry stuff upstairs, especially cups of coffee.

Location was great. Lovely sea view and the room was immaculate

Bed was a little too hard for our preference and was ever so slightly sloped so our heads felt lower than our feet, the bathroom soap dispenser on the wall was broken and empty (there is hand soap in the room on the bed with the little shower gels etc so it’s not necessary, but it would be nicer if it was removed if they aren’t planning to make it useable), the shower lever to turn it on and adjust the water temperature/pressure was really loose, and the drain for the shower didn’t get rid of the water fast enough

Breakfast was simple, but ok. Staff was very friendly.

Only the main light worked, and the light above the bed had no wire and was not connected. The other small lights didn't work either. So, I couldn't dim the light in the evening. The room smelled of mould after taking a shower. The taps of the shower fell off when I first turned it on and had to put them back on. The location was terrible as there were several bars in the same street and the noise was so loud, that even with earplugs I could hear the music till early in the morning. On that note, if you are in town to party that would probably not matter that much, but I got practically no sleep. Also the bed shook every time a bus or lorry drove by. The main lobby was looking ok and updated, but the rooms are outdated and just patched up. The lift had been out of service for a while. I stayed with a couple of friends and they'd the same complains. My friend has asma and the mould really got to her. The staff was very friendly, can't fault them, but the whole hotel needs to be updated and refurbished and cleaned up.

Location was great and the room seemed clean.
Negative section of review
The staff were quite indifferent. The room was underground and incredibly small. It had a tiny open window by the door that I had to keep open all night, and unfortunately the electronic keyhole (that was also used to activate the lights) was right next to it, making it very easy for anyone from outside to take it and enter undetected while I was sleeping in the room. It's quite scary. I wasn't able to relax at all. The TV was not working properly.
