FAQs about hotels in Vancouver

Outstanding Capital of the Outdoors

Vancouver is an outdoorsy city ranking among the world’s most livable, sheltered by Vancouver Island and the Pacific Range mountains. The most famous peak, Grouse Mountain, is a favorite spot for hiking and skiing. Take the cable car up for magnificent views of the city's skyscrapers and huge Stanley Park.

Skirting this park is the Seawall, a popular biking trail with paths passing the Vancouver Aquarium, picnic spots and a pitch and putt course. There are also a couple of beaches, but the best ones are along English Bay in Kitsilano.

Granville Island is just across False Creek from Yaletown and houses some quirky shops and markets. Ferries depart from here to near BC Place Stadium and home field of the city’s football and soccer teams. The legendary Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team play next door at Rogers Arena.

With the largest Chinatown in North America, Gastown is the oldest part of Vancouver and is near the Canada Place cruise ship terminal.

We could go on and on about British Columbia's biggest city, but we could never do it justice, so why not try it for yourself? Booking.com has a fabulous range of accommodations, from hotels near Vancouver Airport in Richmond to downtown B&Bs and motels near all of its ferry ports.

Fantastic: City planning; Buildings' architectural design, well balanced skyline; Integration with nature; Stanley park; boat tours; seaplane tours; sea to sky gondola; Whistler and the drive there; just driving around the city is a pleasure. Unbearable: drug epidemics surounding downtown and Chinatown; you can see it is spreading to other parts of the city centre; human degradation; hundreds of people completly left to their fate; drug traffic and drug slavery; profound sadness and preplexity on how all the Comunnity - City/Province/Country - allows/drove this state of things. Mere spectators, it seems. It is an absolute no-go zone that should be clearly marked as such to city visitors - which is not, and that is far from okay. Unless one has professional interest in doing so.

City footpaths could do with a pressure clean.

City footpaths could do with a pressure clean. The litter around homeless or down on their luck folks is a turn off for visitors. General waste cleaning services are apparent but clean streets say the city cares about itself.

Sadly just another big city lacking in character.

Sadly just another big city lacking in character. A surprising number of homeless people in many places in the city and didn't really feel very clean. Lots of rubbish randomly accummulated around the streets. We primarily stayed there because that is where our cruise was leaving from for our trip to Alaska. As it turns out we much preferred Victoria on Vancouver Island and should have stayed there much longer and stayed much less in Vancouver.

    Vancouver was great.

Vancouver was great. We were forced to stay longer due to the Air Canada strike. The horrible Vancouver Luxury guesthouse took advantage of that situation for 1 night in Vancouver 16 Aug - 17 Aug. We found a following 2 nights for less each night at the wonderful Sylvia Hotel in English Bay, being given a cancellation there.

Vancouver is awesome and it does need some days to get to know it well. Do set a budget (unless you don't care or have unlimited budget). Hotels around downtown are not cheap, and many do not include meals; so most of your budget will be used in accommodation only. If you don't have a car, look for free shuttles to Capilano and other sites. Use public transportation or walk.

Stanley Park was wonderful. We walked the entire seawall. The first night we at the the Tea House in Stanley Park. Great food, amazing views from the Tea House. On a rainy morning we visited the Vancouver Museum which I highly recommend. Vancouver is a real foodie city. They have something for everyone. The temperatures were high 60s/low 70s. Very enjoyable.

We pretty much liked everything about it. True that it is not in the city centre, but being at the UBC Campus gave us another view into Vancouver. The room was clean and had a good size. We used the kitchen and it worked perfectly. We liked it so much, that the plan wasn't to stay here but in another hotel. However, we spend two nights here before and liked it so much that we cancelled the other hotel and rebooked here. So 10/10 for us.
