Livorno features one of the biggest harbours in Italy, from which ferries depart towards a long list of Mediterranean destinations, particularly the Tuscan Archipelago, Sardinia and Corsica. I booked two nights but decided to only stay for one and left early. There’s an abundance of very good & also some gourmet restaurants. A great city. Kind of dingy and edgy in places. lots of street art. I'd forgotten my favorite artist, Modigliani, was from here. Cuisine livornese is spectacular. Some of the finest seafood I've ever had. The old fortresses and Port area are very romantic. Hope I get to return some day. Loved il Porto Ristopecheria and Osteria della Venezia. Take the Moby Fantasy to Sardegna for a real treat. Getting around town isn't that easy no Uber I didn't understand the bus lines. Livorno is a waterfront town, not BEACHFRONT. We were looking for a relaxing day by the sea on a sandy beach, but this is not the city for that. It has beautiful views but the waterfront is rocky, not sandy, in which we were disappointed. It took all morning to figure out that to get to the beach we had to leave the town. $40 in cab fares to go to Tirrenia which is beautiful and sandy.
