Love the Cairns Esplanade with wonderful vibe. We travelled to Fitzroy Island for colourful coral and tropical fish. Mareeba Innisfail and Atherton Tablelands for lovely towns and countryside with waterfalls and rainforest were a highlight. We saw platypus and flying foxes and other fauna. A trip driving along the scenic Captain Cook Highway to the markets by the sea at Port Douglas we would recommend. Beautiful country pubs for a midday meal.Guest review byTonyAustralia - 10.0

Cairns is a beautiful City in a beautiful part of the world. Restaurants are excellent. There are heaps of attractions, things to do and places surrounding to go. A great staging post for the Daintree, Port Douglas and the reef. Mostly people are friendly. Cairns - lovely temperature. It felt safe walking around the streets. So many restaurants and bars to choose from. Casino was fun. Driving around Cairns was easy. The e-scooter was fun, however the streets were a bit too congested to ride these easily. The community pool looked lovely and had a great atmosphere. We took the half-day bus tour; we found this VERY worthwhile (and worth the money) and would recommend this to everyone. You don't have to spend a fortune to have a great visit to Cairns. The Art Gallery displayed a brilliant collection of indigenous art; it was really, really good, and FREE. The museum was great too; we went there on our half-day tour and were entitled to a more complete visit later for free if we wished (ran out of time). The parts of the museum we got to see, provided very much a male-dominant perspective of life in the early days, with minimal appreciation given to the hardships women would have experienced. The water-front walking pathways are delightful. If you wait in one spot long enough, most of Cairns' population will eventually walk or jog by, or so it feels. As mentioned in our review, you can get a return ticket on the local bus to Trinity Beach or Palm Cove for only $1. I would recommend you print off a bus map and timetable before you go. The buses run every half-hour most of the day. If you like malls, there are several, and a big one at Smithfield, which you can get to by the aforementioned local bus. The botanical garden is GREAT and FREE too. The taxi fare from the domestic airport to the Harbourside hotel was only $20; can any other city beat such value?Guest review byPeterAustralia

We started out in a standard hotel room and upgraded to an apartment half way through the week due to all the rain and staying in more.
