The rooms, food, location, beer, and vibes are amazing. In particular, I like how the hotel is walking distance – even with luggage – from the train station, but not in a touristy spot. With just a 10-15m walk, you can get to the heart of tourism.

FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

    Edinburgh tattoo was excellent.

Edinburgh tattoo was excellent. Great atmosphere in city during the Fringe Festival time but be prepared masses of people, lots queueing . Prebook activities and restaurants if you can..do your research and plan.. Tram from airport to city and back so easy to use and reasonably priced. Hop on and off bus tour great way to start trip for first time visits to get bearings. Amarone restaurant on st Andrews square was our favourite. Lovely atmosphere, good prices and fab food. Easy to walk around city despite being busy and felt safe.

Paul let us drop our luggage off early and met us at 94DR.

Paul let us drop our luggage off early and met us at 94DR. He was most accommodating, welcomed us and gave us a tour of the main floor. After showing us the map of Edinburgh, and the center of the town which really isn’t that big, he shared which buses we could catch right outside the door. He told us we could check in early and gave us contact information. Paul & John left us a wonderful welcome basket of goodies from sweets to breakfast foods to a bottle of wine – wow! The bedrooms are stylishly decorated, and the beds are very comfortable. (Know there are some stairs to climb with your suitcases.) Some of the bathrooms have clawfoot bathtubs. The Orangery Room is great for gathering for breakfast before heading out for the day. The kitchen had every gadget needed to make the perfect meal. Spices, olive oil, butter, all the basics were available for our use. Paul showed us how to use the double coffee pot and provided all the coffee we needed. The back garden was so refreshing and quiet in the mornings to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. When the Tattoo was cancelled due to Storm Floris (we had combined tickets for dinner & the Tattoo), our adult children quickly put together a wonderful meal for us. After enjoying a four-course dinner with whisky and wine, we watched the 2024 Tattoo in the Media Room as we enjoyed our dessert! 94DR has so much to offer from wonderful sleeping accommodation, with private full bathrooms, to spacious rooms for spending time with family away from the hustle & bustle of the city yet just a short bus ride to town. We hope to be back again! Thank you Paul & John for your gracious hospitality!

Go off season and see the history or go in the high season around the Fringe and see the back of peoples heads in the queues, and there are queues to everything and everywhere - and noise I was here to see ACDC at Murrayfield Stadium, so I love the right kind of noise, the city centre is a different kind of noise Book a castle visit online weeks before you are going, all slots book up for weeks in advance Add a bus trip to The Kelpies and The Falkirk Wheel The train is cheaper for a short trip to Dunbar, it a beautiful little fishing town with lovely pubs and food and views it`s well worth a nip over for lunch and a little peace Greyfriars Bobby is a must as was The Pound Museum, I have a nice photo with my hand on a £1m pile or £20 notes Eating out - Wetherspoons on a budget and go to The Alexandre Graham Bell as its the quietest, cleanest and the toilets are not a mile away

The location is perfect when you want to explore the city centre of Edinburgh. The breakfast is a buffet where you can find croissants, muffins, all different types of drinks, eggs, bacon and sausages, to summarize a full breakfast. They do vegetarian options as well. The staff was very helpful. If you drive to the hotel, there is a parking nearby. There was a daily discount offered by the hotel. I definitely recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Royal Mile Hotel.

Hotel was clean, and breakfast was delicious. We came for the royal Highland show, and the location of the hotel was close to the show ground, so didn't need to travel far to get too it. Also there is a 3 minute walk from the hotel to a tram stop, which is cheap and you can get straight on and into the city centre of Edinburgh in minutes
