It is slightly outside of the town, and a good base for walking. We also used the Lido while we were there which was good.
Room of premier inn standard. Good.

Lovely hotel, right in the centre. Well appointed rooms. Spotlessly clean. Lovely decoration of rooms. Gorgeous dining room. Someone has really put a lot of time and effort into styling it. Lovely breakfast. Great value. Would definitely stay again.

This is a small mining town built around 1600 AD with narrow steep streets and quaint architecture. The major draw-back is cars and parking with narrow streets and parked car everywhere navigation is difficult with only one vehicle possible to navigate at a time. We had to back-up in one town to allow a bus to pass a camper-van. Most of the properties in the town are named with plaques. There is only one shop and two pubs, but the towns of Matlock and Bakewell are close by.
The people there were very friendly and helpful.
We would recommend the town for visitors to the National Park

Winster is a small place full of beautiful listed buildings.
Winster is a small place full of beautiful listed buildings. There is a well-stocked village shop and two pubs. The Miners Standard was excellent - friendly, well-kept real ale and excellent food (Unfortunately , the Old Bowling Green pub is open only on weekends at present so I couldn't try it out!), and fantastic walks very close to the village including The Limestone Way.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay.
We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. The cottage is very sweet, with everything well provided for. The village of Winster is wonderful and full of beautiful buildings and ginnels to explore and admire. There is a local village shop which is open every day, plus a lovely and friendly pub just around the corner (The Old Bowling Green) which was very welcoming and highly recommended. (Open long weekends atm). Lots of walks from the doorstep, or nice drives out into the gorgeous Derbyshire countryside. Would only avoid the other pub as it wasn't Covid wary. Would love to stay again sometime. Many thanks to the owner.

Winster is a delightful, characterful village and the local inhabitants are extremely helpful and welcoming. It is ideally located to take advantage of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site attractions not far away and the village itself is a great base for walks and exploring the countryside's natural and cultural features in the immediate environs. The local pubs, the Bowling Green and the Miners Standard Pub provided great hospitality.
