At the meeting point of Australia’s Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, laid-back Brisbane is spread around the meandering river running through it. The river’s artsy South Bank is home to Australia’s largest modern art gallery, tranquil gardens and an artificial beach. Just across the river is the towering skyline of Brisbane's central business district, the location of many hotels in central Brisbane.
Nearby are the botanic gardens and Queen Street Mall, the most popular Brisbane shopping spot. There are more shopping centers all over the city, and the out-of-town malls include one in the Indooroopilly suburb by the foothills of Mount Coot-tha.
This green hill offers fabulous city views and has a planetarium, nature reserve and yet more botanic gardens. In Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to the south, you can hug one of the loveable animals, while Australia Zoo – Steve Irwin’s legacy – is a good day trip.
Brisbane is a very leafy city and one of its parks, Wickham Park, contains the Old Windmill, Brisbane’s oldest building. To the northeast, the Fortitude Valley suburb is known for its vibrant music scene and Chinatown. Across the river in Woolloongabba is The Gabba or Brisbane Cricket Ground, and nearby is the bohemian West End district.
Booking.com has plenty of downtown hotels, and other accommodations near Brisbane Airport in a northeastern coastal suburb.
“Ideal location. We were looking to explore the city before heeding off to the airport for our trip back to the UK. The CBD and botanical gardens are about a 15-20 minute stroll away - the nightlife, clubs and China Town within 5 mins as is the Fortitude Valley rail station which provides frequent and quick links to Brisbane Int.”
“Staff are always lovely, for the price of $89 it's an absolute steal. Yes it's no 5 star hotel but for the price you are paying the rooms are spacious private and clean. You wouldn't find anything this cheap or close to the airport and river cat and city in Brisbane with a private room air con, and fans, foxtel and free wifi. The TVs are nice and big, even larger then most 5 star hotel. I love staying here, the staff are gorgeous x”
“The location was great, within Brisbane CBD and very close to Central Station so that catching the train to and from the airport was easy. The beds/pillows in the room were comfortable and the gym was one of the better ones I have experienced in a hotel.”
“Great location - airport - air-train - Rendezvous - Brisbane CBD, and a hotel with 'character'.”
“Closeness to South Bank Parklands and various restaurants, etc. Also close to the venue where my husband's conference was held. Train station to the airport was close by and hotel sold train tickets which was convenient. Easy walk to Brisbane CBD.”
