It was the first time we visited Madrid and it lived up to our expectations. It has plenty of history and culture on show together with plenty of restaurants (fast food, cafes and specialty outlets) offering different food as reasonable prices. We felt safe in the city even at night time. There are also plenty of outlets to go shopping. Majority of the time we went to see historical places on foot but you can also see these with the easy to use public transport which is cheap. Museums as Prado, Reina Sophia,and Thyssen-Bornemisza are a "must", but there are many more as Lope de Vega etc. - unfortunately the latter only in Spanish ;-( Also many nice Cafes, plazas,bakeries,and bars - however a 'real tapas bar' was difficult to find ;-/

Lots of historic buildings and places for tourists. People are relatively friendly,, especially if try to speak in Spanish. Many people in the downtown area speak English. Central Madrid is not car friendly. Parking is difficult, if not impossible. Traffic is slow motion. You can walk faster than drive. If you need to go far, get a taxi. Location is good, is in the financial center, close to airport and city center. We arrived in terminal 1, we took bus 200 to get to the hotel. Public transport in Madrid by default costs 1.5 EUR(and you can pay cash inside the bus). In order to get to the center we got the bus 53 infront of Cuco’s restaurant which is super close to the hotel and it was super easy to travel around. Highly recommended. Loved it?
