Museums as Prado, Reina Sophia,and Thyssen-Bornemisza are a "must", but there are many more as Lope de Vega etc. - unfortunately the latter only in Spanish ;-( Also many nice Cafes, plazas,bakeries,and bars - however a 'real tapas bar' was difficult to find ;-/

Lots of historic buildings and places for tourists. People are relatively friendly,, especially if try to speak in Spanish. Many people in the downtown area speak English. Central Madrid is not car friendly. Parking is difficult, if not impossible. Traffic is slow motion. You can walk faster than drive. If you need to go far, get a taxi. Everything about Madrid is simply fabulous. This was my fifth visit and I'd go back tomorrow if I could! Great food and drink options everywhere; glorious museums; fabulous walks through Retiro Park in the late afternoon and along the Grand Via in the early evening. Highly recommend ARTEMSIA restaurant (vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free).

The transfer to and from the airport is super convenient. We were worried because our flight was delayed, but the hotel staff were very nice and arranged for a pick up at the airport at 2am with no extra charge. This was really appreciated. The premises are very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was also of good quality. I will be staying again if I am ever connecting flights in Madrid.
