Malmaison Oxford, hotel in Oxford

This converted Victorian prison is now a stunning boutique hotel offering unique luxury accommodations in historic Oxford. Limited private parking is available for a surcharge.

The room was a nice size and the shower was hot. It looked to be recently remodeled. The location was great and part of historic jail and castle. Walking distance to all the tourist attractions. Close to restaurants, bar, and shopping. Limited parking on site but public parking was close by.

An older but beautifully kept hotel with loads of charm. Very clean. GREAT location. Lots of plugs and usb ports available. Staff was amazing from checkin to cleaning to checkout. Very willing to hold our luggage for us - both on arrival and the day we left. Supplies in room refreshed every day - including water, tea, cookies and towels. Our room faced the street with a lively student union across from us. It was not a problem. We still left our windows open but ran some white noise on our phones and slept like babies.

Old Parsonage Hotel, hotel in Oxford

The Old Parsonage Hotel is a boutique hotel set in a building dating back to 1660.

Just a superb hotel: an extremely comfortable, beautifully-fitted room; a warm and efficient staff; a very satisfying restaurant; very quiet; centrally-located in Oxford. The one drawback is the lack of an elevator (it truly is an old parsonage). One of the most enjoyable stays we’ve experienced in 40 years of travel.

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

Fantastic place to visit, the colleges were beautiful and all quite close together. The indoor market is really interesting with a great choice of shops. Lots of busses to get you around if you don't walk. The Natural History museum is worth a look at.

I love Oxford. It is a step back into time. I’ve come many times and the only complaint I have is the homeless population seems to be growing. Hope all cities can find a compassionate way to deal with this growing problem especially in a beautiful city like Oxford. I do feel much safer there than in London which I try to avoid.

Absolutely lovely city, but quite expensive, and it has become very touristy since I last visited some 15 years ago lol. The Ashmolean museum is a must (HUGE so wear some comfy shoes), and if you don't want to spend too much just go walking around because the beautiful colleges and houses are all around you. I visited the Bodleian library, which is very beautiful but you don't get to see that many rooms, and Christ Church (same really). I went on a tour to the Costwolds (nice), just wished I had time to go to Woodstock and visit Blenheim Palace which looks terrific! Do be careful when getting your bus tickets though - there is an app but some tickets aren't valid anytime anywhere, and only for like 15 minutes...

Oxford is a very nice, clean place with a very pleasant ambience, and historic significance. Commuting with public transport is a pleasure, though we missed an equivalent of the 49 Euro ticket in Germany. The city presents buildings of tasteful architecture, free museums of high educational value and enough options for leisure as well.

Christchurch college is a must-visit place. The walk along the banks of the Thames from Kennington to Oxford is quite lovely. The city is very walkable, with much of historical interest. The contrast of the very old buildings and the vitality of the university vibe is great! Busses are everywhere in that old town - very user-friendly public transit.

Very nice hotel located just outside the Oxford city centre. Great location if you wanna be close, but not in the middle of the city centre. The rooms are a bit small (we didn`t really mind , because we only had a shower and slept there), but the room was fresh and nice with a good standard. The beds are supergood! Diana, Patrick and the rest of the staff we met, were very friend, helpful and available. Helped us with parking, and where to eat nearby. Good value for your money too! Would recommend it to anyone.

Located in Oxford's Summertown area The Galaxy is perfectly placed. You can enjoy the nice bakeries and pubs near by and get to the city centre easily. The bus stop is just in front the entrance of the hotel and takes about 10minutes if not less. I preferred going by foot following the Oxford Canal(30min). I was pleasantly surprised by the Trap Grounds Nature Reserve along the way! The staff were all wonderful! Truly helpful and kind. Couldn't recommend them enough.

We only had one day in Oxford and we were arriving by car. The hotel has private parking and allows you to arrive early, park and leave your bags. It is literally across the street from the colleges. We walked everywhere and had dinner at a lovely restaurant a block away. I had an after dinner drink in the bar while my husband used a room in the “library” for a conference call. It was really lovely, convenient and wonderful in every regard.

I may come back to England again just to stay here. Picturesque setting, the best hospitality I’ve ever received, and slept better here than any other place on my long trip. I ate a proper English Breakfast cooked by Donna. Our room was immaculate. She also gave helpful tips for my wife and I, like which bus to take into Oxford. We also enjoyed running the 3-mile loop around the beautiful reservoir nearby. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic location, right in the centre of Oxford. It's a very old charming building and the whole hotel is located up a set of steep stairs. We were lucky to have a family room on the first floor, so not too far to climb with bags. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond to help us. If you're not up to climbing up to three flights of stairs, request a room on the first floor. Nice scented amenities in the bathroom.
