Our Hotel was Burn How within 5 minutes walking distance of the cruise ships. We took 2 trips on separate days, one to Ambleside to the north of Lake Windermere and the other longer trip south to Lakeside. There one could visit an aquarium and take a 15 minute steam train ride returning to Bowness on a later cruise ship. The only disappointment was that most eating places close at 5pm so the choice is therefore limited unless of course you have oodles of cash.

Excellent base for exploring the wider Lakes, however Bowness is very beautiful in its own right! Lots of options to relax and entertain people of all ages. A wealth of dining experiences are available and the scenery is out of this world! Travellers with limited mobility may struggle with some terrain (unsurprisingly, lots of steep gradients), however there are plenty of places that are easy to get around, and public transport is fantastic. The people of the North West are lovely, friendly, and very welcoming. Food is varied, tasty and always generously portioned. There’s something about the clean air in the Lakes that immediately makes you relax and unwind. A gorgeous part of the world!

bowness get very busy at peak times... still a nice a place to visit. seeing and feeding the swans and geese was nice .... just be aware there where lots of rats round there getting the food from the floor. Alot of transport from here, boat trips and lots off buses. Go on the mountain goat trip takes you all over the lakes in a mini coach with a guided tour. A fantastic place to eat is broadwalk bar and grill... you have to pre book to get in, if you manage to go get seated upstairs and ask for tubbs .. a waiter at broadwalk what a fantastic bloke, he is so funny, always cracking jokes to you and the kids.

Great location within Bowness on Windermere. We only stayed for 2 nights but fully appreciated what the area had to offer. Kathy was a great host, very friendly, approachable and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was spot on for us, very clean. The apartment was a great size, clean and had a small enclosed garden for our dog. Just what we needed for our time away. Location was perfect for us. It was only a 10 mins walk to bowness on windermere or windermere and there was also a bus outside which went both locations when we were feeling lazy.
