United StatesOur stay at the Port Charlotte Hotel on Islay was absolutely wonderful from beginning to end! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make us feel comfortable and completely at ease. Their warmth and attention to detail created such a homely atmosphere — we truly felt like part of the family.
The restaurant was a highlight, serving delicious local dishes that celebrated the flavours of Islay beautifully. The chefs clearly put their hearts into every plate. And the bar — what a treat! The selection of local whiskies was fantastic, and we loved trying a few new favourites each evening.
Our room was spotless, cosy, and perfectly appointed with everything we could possibly need. Waking up each morning to those lovely views was such a joy. The location couldn’t have been better either — ideal for exploring the island, with easy access to places like Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, and Bowmore Distilleries. We also adored visiting the charming Windswept Farm Shop, reached through meadows and hills dotted with grazing sheep and Highland cows — pure magic!
All in all, it was an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to return.

Perfect, magical, cosy. I think this IS a must in every bucket list. The food is absolutely amazing and the staff makes you feel at home. We went on a cold night and the fire was on, we had a perfect dinner and had the BEST night sleep. I Will recommend this hotel to all my loved ones

The place was great, with breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and stunning sunsets. The hotel staff were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. I ran into an issue with my rental vehicle, and both the owner and staff stepped in right away without hesitation—they really went above and beyond.
The location is fantastic—just a 10-minute drive from Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Bowmore distilleries, plus right next to a great rum distillery and beer brewery. It’s also only about a 30-minute drive to Caol Ila (home of Johnnie Walker) and the ferry to mainland Scotland.
Highly recommend this place, and I’m already planning on coming back!

The hotel is beautifully situated outside the town and near the ferry. Road maps are provided, and the island is easy to get around. The common areas are gorgeous and cozy the restaurant is beautiful and the food was fantastic. Five stars!

Everything…. Truly. I went around and walked through the most stunning parts of nature and found the standing stones. Fire was prepped for when I returned. We honestly just stayed close and luxuriated in this amazing castle.

Incredibly cute town with a variety of shops and cafes. Great food and beverages can be had at multiple locations throughout the town. Birch Bakery was an added joy as their pastries were fantastic! But get there early as the line gets pretty long right after opening. Easy access to the various sites (Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, Dunvegan Castle), trails (Quiraing), and vistas on Skye. Great place for an extended stay!

It fit the purpose of our trip which was an auto tour of the island of Skye. We would have preferred to stay further up the island but could not find a hotel with vacancies there. This town is no longer very scenic, but it worked for us.

Unfortunately, we were only on the island for one day and arrived in Stornoway around 6:00 pm. Stores were closed by then, so we were unable to check out the sites and shops. Given the chance I would have stayed 1 or 2 more days.

Broadford was a great base for exploring the isle of skye. Our accommodation was very good. Breakfast was very good . You really need to have a car to explore the island in just a few 2 days. You need to be prepared for extreme changes of weather within a few hours. The country side is spectacular & our stops to view & exploring were numerous. For those prepared & able there are many awesome walking/ hiking options. Allow plenty of time is this is your thing

Cute little harbor town on Mull, selection of good places to eat at various price points, great base to explore the north end of the island. We came in direct on the Kilchoan ferry, stayed two nights, then took a road trip round the north of the island to visit Calgary Beach, enjoy the scenery, and head back to Oban on the Craignure ferry on our last afternoon. Picked up great scallops and chips at the chip shop to eat overlooking the harbor one night, and enjoyed sophisticated pizza and Italian at The Gallery Restaurant in a converted church. Only sorry we didn't have an extra day or two to visit the distillery, museum and take a wildlife boat trip from the harbor. Next time, when we'd also like to visit Iona. Don't miss the cheese and spirits tour at The Glass Barn just outside the town (walkable if you enjoy a short hike along country lanes). Highlight of our trip!

Short ferry ride.
Short ferry ride. Although I initially found it a pain to make sure we were at the ferry on time, I loved the extra time to spend on the island in the evening. You can walk around the property, go to the distillery, bar, restaurant, hang out in the library or play room. My son and I had a great time and would love to come back and spend more time. We left our car on the Sconser side. We ate one night at the hotel and the other an early dinner in Portree.

UIg is a really nice place and all of the attractions were nearby so that we could plan it really well. This was perfect for a family vacation, especially there is a nearby supermarket within walking distance

Port Ellen is quite pretty with colourful harbour houses. Only a few restaurants and pubs. Particularly enjoyed Ardbeg House for both wonderful character in both the bar and restaurant. The bar has a wonderful beer garden. 100 yards from guest house
The attraction to Islay for me was the Whisky and you can walk the distillery path from the guest house and if you have had too many samples book a taxi back to town.
We were very well looked after at the guest house with provision made for my wife's gluten free requirments.

Due to a mishap with my calendar I missed eating at The Dunvegan Hotel. However, I enjoyed the dinners at Atholl House and the Old School restaurant.

Roads on the island are quite tricky - single lane with passing places, but fine if you take your time and do not want to go anywhere in a hurry. Road surfaces are generally very good. Beautiful views. Craignure is a good location for accessing both north & south areas of the island. Handy for the ferrys. There are some lovely coastal walks close by.
