Lovely friendly and helpful staff especially the lady in reception. Location was perfect for my workshop. Easy parking. Rooms were spacious especially in the main building and very clean. A little tired in places but renovations are ongoing. Room service meal was piping hot and good. Simple pie and chips but nicely done.

When I first arrived the cottage room I was allocated was steaming hot. Heating on full blast and it was 19 degrees outside. Couldn’t be turned off. But the lady in reception was fantastic and moved me to a lovely cool room in the main house. Renovations going on but needed and will make it so much better. I was out all day so didn’t affect me

Quaint, clean, friendly, relaxed, just perfect. Breakfasts were generous and delicious and with a very friendly host. Nothing was too much. Evenings in the bar with dinner - great food! - and drinks, were relaxed at peaceful. A mixture of other guests and local people from village. A great time had by all!

The room was a good size and was clean and comfortable. We had dinner on 1 night which was well cooked if a little pricey. Breakfast were excellent and the restaurant staff were good throughout our 3 day stay. Comfortable lounges with coffee always available.

Our premium room was right next to the kitchen roof so there was a constant drone and noise from the extractor fans. On night one it was clearly switched off around 11:00 . Night 2 it was on all night meaning that our sleep was very disrupted as we had to close the windows to have less noise but then the room over heated so either way it made sleeping difficult. On night 3 I asked whether the fans could be turned off and they were eventually. I was surprised that a hotel with such a good reputation would have a premium room in a part of the hotel where this could happen. Also the water pressure was variable so the temperature of showers fluctuated between hot and cold rapidly.

It is not at the center of Newcastle but for me whose destination is the Discovery Museum it offers a not bad position within 30min walk. The owner is pretty kind and you can join them watching football matches at the bar near the entrance.

My chair had a leg loosen, but that’s not a significant issue, just sometimes annoyed me when working at midnight.

The cooked breakfast was good. The main building is very attractive externally.

I arrived about 7pm ready for dinner only to be told the restaurant wasn't open as 'it wasn't worth it as Mondays are quiet' this was not mentioned on the website and it meant I had to get back in my car and go to a local pub for dinner, which was disappointing and something I wasn't particularly comfortable with. The main hotel was quite run down, (not just as per another review appropriate for the building), there was some decorating going on, but again this was not mentioned anywhere. As a single female traveller I was not happy being given a ground floor room, accessed externally, at the back of the hotel, and not in the main building. The room was exceptionally hot and I was unable to open a window (due to the ground floor and the location at the back of the building and accessed externally). The bathroom however was unheated. There was no hairdryer so I couldn't wash my hair, and only one, broken, coat hanger. A minor point, but no biscuits.
