  Having stayed here before, in exactly the same type of accommodation we kind of knew what to expect. But after booking short notice and paying quite a lot for the room I became a little concerned by some of the reviews I read. Honestly, this is nowhere near 5* luxury, but it is mainly clean, comfortable and a pleasant stay. My wife and I came for an escape from the day to day with the kids and that's what it provided. We ordered a takeaway pizza from a place in the village and spent the entire night in the hot tub - it was perfect!

  We went on a Friday night in the school holidays, so I guess the prices were inflated, but nearly £300 for 1 nights stay with no evening meal or spa experience feels expensive. If the accommodation was premium then I would understand, but these rooms are looking a bit tired/dated, it needs some money spending on it. I wouldn't class this as value for money at the price we paid as we have been lucky enough to stay in some fabulous hotels previously that provided a much better experience. But I don't think some of the negative reviews are being fair / objective, so don't be put off by those if you are looking to book here.

  We prepared our own breakfast as it was self catering. But the kitchen is very well equipped.

  The safety lights in the ceilings of the bedrooms... I was sorry I didn't have a sleep mask as I need darkness to be able to sleep... And those lights and the light in the entrance are very bright and disturbing.

  It was absolutely freezing at night. There was no means of turning the radiator on. Luckily I had the other duvet to put on top. My next doors bathroom tap was soooo loud and they were turning it on as late as 2am and as early at 7.30am.
