Firstly I did not stay at the Atlas Oxford House. For some reason not explained to me, I was directed to the Athenia Hotel instead. I did not have breakfast, I was not aware of the option to have it. The bathroom was well fitted and clean and bright.

I was directed to collect the keys from the Athenia Guest House. When I got there, there was no one to welcome me and I had to wait several minutes at the door. The Athenia is very scruffy looking from the outside and positively untidy on the in side. I’m terms of comfort, the bed was passable at best

We had a lovely room in Lavender Cottages within the grounds of the manor. We had a very good breakfast and we had dinner one evening in the bar which was also very good.

Our room had a sky light window so we could only see outside if we stood within the window. It was a shame because we would have had a lovely view overlooking the duck pond. Our room was also located next to the main road entrance so we did hear cars and lorries entering the manor grounds at all hours.

Absolutely do not stay here. I’ll preface my review saying I did read some reviews, look at ratings and such so I was aware I wasn’t going to be staying at the ritz. I was fine with that, I understand £60 in London is cheap. The pictures looked nice so I thought I’d give it a shot. This is the most unsafe place I’ve ever attempted to stay at. As described the entrance is at the back of a restaurant, what isn’t described is that the ‘door’ to the property was just a piece wooden board covering the stairs with a digital code lock on it. Which to me felt very unsafe as anyone could kick that clean off its hinges if they wanted to. Moving past this into the communal areas/walk ways I was apprehensive. It was very dark, dingy, cluttered with random stuff and honestly without being rude I felt like I’d walked into a trap house. It was very off putting. I got to my room and for the most part it was nice and matched the pictures, aside from the plastic ‘tiles’ peeling off, burn marks around the hob and water stains on the ceiling. What also made me feel incredibly unsafe was that there wasn’t a lock on the inside of the room, just the same digital code lock on the outside like the front door. Anyone that knows these codes could just walk in? After staying here for about a hour tops I had to find somewhere else to stay. I didn’t feel safe in the slightest, let alone by myself in the middle of the night. Luckily I managed to find a lovely safe room around the corner and was gone within five minutes. I’m now trying to get a refund but the owners have suddenly stopped replying to me after explaining my situation. They didn’t even have the decency to reply to my message, just left it on read. I have given them a week to respond before posting this review. Very disappointing and unprofessional. I understand that cancelling the stay results in not getting a refund, but I feel like having to leave the property due to feeling unsafe is an exceptional circumstance.

Downstairs bedroom, owners and next door neighbour could see straight into room when blind up not very private. Electric heater pluged into extension lead not recomended until electrical regas also extension lead pluged into extension lead for kettle 😳
