Quite a treat, to be able to stay in a historic castle and yet have a lift to make access easy for a visitor with breathing problems! The staff at reception were extremely accommodating and helpful, even arranging a meal in our room one night for a nominal fee. Dinner was exceptionally good quality, and the restaurant staff were efficient and friendly. The situation, 15 minutes from Beamish and with easy parking, was ideal.

Well, the Castle is 650 years old, so of course rooms are not always easy to get to, floors not always smooth, and windows sometimes too high up to see the view. In terms of what might sensibly be improved, there’s very little, but we found the bed rather wobbly and a little more light on the bedroom ceiling would have been nice. Mainly, our regret is that there are not more Lumley Castles around the U.K.!

The hotel is set in a beautiful village. The rooms are large ,it suited our needs as we were staying a few days. The bed was large and very comfy. The staff go out of there way to help you. We only had dinner at the hotel once, the fish and chips were delicious .

The dessert was a let down , we ordered sticky toffee pudding what a let down, for a start it tasted more like syrup pudding, it looked like it was a portion that had cut in half, it was ment to come with clotted cream, we got custard and cheep icecream. Very expensive for what we got and it didn't taste home made.

The location and facilities were just what my sister and I needed for a 2 night stay. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Heater in one of the bedrooms was locked so couldn't be switched on. No real problem though, just a very minor glitch. My bed was a bit hard but the rest of the property was great.

The place looks shabby from the outside as you approach and doesn’t get any better inside. The kitchen is dirty, used by a lot of people who spend a lot off time in there until late at night talking very loud. This is not good for anyone who has the room as it’s next to the kitchen and unfortunately, I have to be up early so was kept awake. No window in the room, the bathroom is cramped and was not very clean along with the bedroom floor. The towels provided were no bigger than hand towels.
