Positive section of review
This is an atmospherically ramshackle group of ancient buildings in the shadow of Carnarvon Castle. It is so close to the city walls that we, and the satnav, became somewhat confused in the final hundred metres. The welcome could not have been warmer and the room was comfortable. We ate in the bar where the menu was fairly typical pub food served by friendly staff, who may need a little more familiarity with the drinks stocked.

Location is a bit outside of center of town, which suited our needs perfectly. It's on a quiet road in a quiet neighbourhood. Bus stops are nearby (±500m), supermarkets at ±1km, restaurants at ±1km. You can easily take the bus to most of the most beautiful places in the Lake District.

The kitchen is a bit under-equipped. Pans (both cooking and frying), cups, plates... there's a bit too little of them. Also the Nest floodlight/camera above the front-window kept turning on and off during some evenings.

Great location close to shops, bars and cafes. Well equipped kitchen for the size. Free parking a huge bonus even though it's a bit tricky getting in and out. If you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head it has all you need. Little outside space a bonus in good weather

It was very small particularly the bathroom so might be a squeeze for big people (think campervan/motorhome). The door is the only 'window' so would benefit from a curtain for night (take a sleep mask). All clean and tidy but a bit dated

Location peaceful and quiet. Comfy bed. Friendly staff. Room spacious. Pool and spa nice. Outside garden beautiful to sit in.

Water in room would add additional touch. There was a jug and glasses but you had to go to the bar to get it. When a guest arrives they are thirsty and going to the bar to collect their first water when it’s a 4* hotel is odd.
