The Captain's Rest is a cosy pied à terre located in the heart of Whitby: a perfect location in terms of accessing the vibrant heart of Whitby. The accommodation is more than adequate like a hotel room (but much larger). It is very good value for money. The room has a fridge and kettle etc Wi-Fi and TV and excellent storage space plus a desk! The system for accessing the property was very good but took some "getting used to." There is a public car park literally 30 metres from the property which costs £9 for 24 hours.

The weather was AWFUL and we were cold at night as duvet was thin. The booking process and booking management is on line - no "real person" involved although there is a number to contact. The parking situation is horrendous throughout the town centre - nothing can be done about that of course BUT it would have been reassuring to know about the public car park before we gratefully came upon it serendipitdously.

Very comfortable with good restaurant , coffee shop and bar. Staff very friendly and helpful. Linda got a fan heater for my room as it was so chilly for late May! Bed extremely comfortable. Central position in Berwick-upon-Tweed and I would stay again if I come to the town.

Very steep stairs to front door. There is another more accessible entrance but as a first-timer it is not obvious.

As always love the scenery, the cottage is beautiful, smaller than tryfan but that was fine. The host is wonderful. Hope to stay at the siabod next time. The beds are so comfortable...I miss it already.

Spiders, quite a few popped out from the wood but given it was raining they mightve wanted a free stay...

Lovely comfortable room after stays in youth hostels . Helpful staff. Good value hearty meals.

The outside isn't beautiful and whilst the location next to Bannockburn is great it is just in a housing area now.

The breakfasts were excellent! The room was surprisingly quiet for a pub. We slept well.

Sorry about this, because I'm sure most people would have been delighted with the roll-top bath but, without any kind of hand rail or a non-slip mat it was useless for anyone with even the slightest mobility or balance issues. The only option for me was a strip wash in the sink. I realise it's a walkers' town and most visitors will be fit and able, but for anyone who isn't they'll need to know.

Rooms are located at the basement of a grocery store. Nights are loud. Bathroom is tiny. Avoid this property if traveling with children.

Quirky. Well located.

TV didn’t work, no teaspoons on hospitality tray and milks had curdled. Limited supplies. Bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment. Soap dispensers empty.

Noise from street. Windows are old and all noise from outside could be listened inside the room
