Cael was super nice and gave us the lay of the land fairly quickly. Great addition to your "staff." :) Great advice about Bertie's, too. The hosts are really sweet. The location is perfect for Harry Potter fans and those wanting to get close to the Royal Mile without being right up on it.

We were charged extra for a timeframe outside of the typical. When the plans changed unexpectedly and the timeline, it wasn't refunded. It wasn't a lot, but it sticks in the craw a little. Also, the large artificial plant that hung over the bed a bit was really dusty. Both of our allergies went nuts in that room and dust went everywhere when my husband brushed up accidentally against the plant.

Room was comfortable. Breakfast was good on 2 days, over cooked on one day the egg was way over done, don’t know if it was a different chef. But overall breakfast was good. Parking was good .

Detailed cleaning could have been better, in the bathroom area around the overflow in sink and around the hinges on the toilet. Stated it was a short 15 min walk to the city centre, took us a good 25mins.

What I didn't like at all was, given I'd travelled some distance, that after checking in at just past 11.00pm the bar was shut! I understand the licensing law, and yes I could have a drink, on room service, all ok....what wasn't ok was I was told I couldn't drink it in the bar, it had to be in the room...I couldn't even take my drink to the outside area, which is totally private, and sit and have a smoke with my drink, the drink had to stay in the room, which I found quite ridiculous, but what irritated me even more, was the fact that other guests were still sat in the bar still drinking, but I wasn't allowed to enter....with my drink. This may sound a little trivial, but it wasn't to me at that time, it really irritated me, as at 66 years old I don't expect to be treated like a child, or be treated with such unnecessary intransigence, and it totally spoiled my stay. You also need to fix the telly remote in Room 124, you have to turn it on at the wall...pretty poor, as I fancy it might have been like that for a while, so I'll not hold my breath

Certain members of staff were inexperienced, and some extremely so. Some were so young they were not permitted to serve alcohol, which meant that the bar was short staffed on a Saturday night. The young woman "serving" had an attitude that was so poor and an awareness of the quality of her service it was really shocking. I live overseas, and her lack of professionalism would never be remotely satisfactory here.

Lack of instructions in the black book. could not get TVs working, could not access free Wifi. A man was sent to sort the issue out but he could not fix the problem. Toilet seat was dangerously loose, knob on gas top loose and dangerous, no sharp knives, food from previous guests on frying pan, oven trays and pots. Bathroom cabinet cupboard broken, blind in single bed room broken, these beds only suitable for children really. could not get the radiators going so we were freezing. Disappointed overall as being overseas visitors we were expecting a luxury caravan experience with everything working. the host did make an attemp to solve the TV issue which was appreciated but problem was not solved.

The hotel is very dated compared to the pictures promoting it. Check-in is 3pm & the pool closes at 6pm. Have to leave the hotel through a fire exit door and walk outside to then enter the pool and spa area in an annexe building, where the pool was being used for childrens swimming lessons. We ate in the bar though I rather wish we hadn't as we were both very ill having eaten the seabass which was overcooked & dry. We retreated to our room and couldn't wait to leave the next morning after being awake all night due to the noise of hotel guests including a very amorous couple whom we now feel we know intimately as it sounded like they were in the room... be warned No soundproofing.
