We had a lovely two night stay at the Seven Stars. We had a comfortable room at the front of the building, which is situated right in the heart of Hay-on-Wye and very handy for the bookshops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Di gave us a warm and knowledgable welcome, along with her very friendly dog Captain. Big, tasty breakfasts fuelled us for our days out. This B & B was a 16th Century inn and as you would expect this introduces some quirks to the layout and features of the building. And... it has a swimming pool! This is a fantastic feature for such a small establishment. It's fully heated, indoors and a great size for a leisurely swim when the bookshops have lost their lustre. There is secure and free parking on site- it's a tight turn if the traffic is busy, but plenty of spaces once you're through the entryway. Good value and very much recommended.

Good location for my needs, room was lovely, a little grubby in places and the duvet cover had what looked like a blood stain on it although I could tell that it had been laundered

Loved the decor inside and all the chandeliers, staff were amazing , breakfast was outstanding, hot buffet was hot and not cold like most places, lots of variety too.

The outside paint work needs a little work, I know you shouldnt judge a book by its cover but first thoughts were not very good, but once inside completely changed my mind.

Not much. Stayed for five minutes and then left due to the lack of cleanliness. Found somewhere else to stay.

Felt a bit cold and dirty upon entering. Stains on the floor. Was going to tolerate but the more we looked the worse it was. Surface not clean. Bathroom mouldy. Only a tiny amount of toilet roll! Dirty stained bed linen and pillows was the last straw. Contacted owner who polite and a cleaner arrived within minutes to check. Agreed with us that it was dirty and not acceptable. Owner apologised and offered a full refund. Said he’d expanded his business too quickly and things has slipped. Didn’t keep his promise and the refund never happened and didn’t get a reply after messaging him. Unfortunately this app doesn’t allow me to upload more photos.

The sink drain was not connected, so sink emptied directly onto bathroom floor. As reception is online only I got a response later offering to try and find another room, but it was as I was going to bed as I had an early start, so it was no help. Bare bulb as a lamp. Very hot.
