Beautiful property with everything you could need for a break away. Perfect for walking into Woolacombe and for the neighbouring North Devon attractions. Would definitely recommend 😊

One small thing - could do with a couple of fans in bedrooms.

Both dinner and breakfast were as expected. The staff were attentive and in the main quite friendly. The scenery on the grounds was spectacular as was the original castle building.

Unfortunately the room was not what we expected. The pictures look much better than that in reality. It was very small, you needed to climb a number of flights of stairs to reach the room. There was no functioning lightening on the staircase leading up to our designated room which made this very unsafe. It was very dark, unfamiliar and carrying a suitcase was extremely difficult. When getting ready for bed, I unfolded the ballooned curtain covering the small window to unleash an active wasps nest inside our room. Fortunately my husband was able to remove the wasps and nest from the curtain through the opened window. The toilet flush (a handle mechanism) fell off during the night, so we were unable to flush the toilet. Again my husband could remedy the situation in the morning. When we notified staff of the wasps the evening before, we were offered another room which was kind, however we were already in our pyjamas and as explained, it was dangerous using the stairs with all of our gear which we would have had to pack up. In the morning at check out, I mentioned the additional problem that we had with the toilet overnight. The desk clerk offered to contact the duty manager which I accepted. He was courteous and listened intently. He was aware of the wasps and the nest as he had read the email sent to him the evening prior. I offered to provide photos for him, however he declined. He contacted his manager and then provided us with a partial credit to our VISA card, which we were grateful of. I thought we would be staying in a room within the castle. This was not the case - the rooms were accessible from the courtyard where you walked down some stairs, across another courtyard and then up another flight of stairs (in the dark due to lighting issue described). We will not being staying again.

The room we originally were allocated was very tired and not up to standard. Breakfast and dinner, we could not fault. The staff were exceptional, polite and very accommodating

The hotel was very tired and in need of a good uplift, although very clean

Room was too hot, had to sleep with the open just to be able to sleep and the outside temperature was only 17 degrees so the weather was not to blame. The bed was very soft, that may be a personal preference but it was too soft for my husband and myelf. There was no bottled water in the room, you could buy water but none was complimntary. The room was very noisy, I appreciate that you have to have fire doors but it felt as though doors were banging from about 5.00am constantaly one after the other, which made it impossible to sleep. The last major flaw, there was a confernece at the hotel on the Monday that we arrived (this may had added to all the banging doors as this was a very large conference with lots of the members staying overnight) and as we checked in, we were told that the retaurant was closed for a private function, this we found unaceptable as one of the reasons that we booked the Devere, was that you had eating options, two restaurants and a bar option. One retsaurant was always closed on a Monday but then to be told upon check that we were down to a bar menu for that night when the hotel had contacted me a couple of days prior to our stay to ask if we wanted to upgrade our room and not mentioned this, I found to be very poor customer service.
