One night stay: The house and grounds were beautiful and so peaceful. We spent time in the spa and had drinks in the grounds. Didn't try the restaurants but we will definitely be coming back for that. The "stand out" for us was the staff. Especially Olly who went out of his way to help us with finding free parking in their sister hotel in Stratford after we mentioned we were heading there for a visit. And a lovely breakfast hostess who was warm and chatty. Every staff member greeted us with genuine warmth and care which reflects so well on the general management. Highly recommend!

A very small note. I had assumed that booking a night in the hotel would include access to the spa. I called ahead to book in and realised we had to pay extra - £25pp for 2hrs. We did pay and it was lovely, but we overheard a group checking out who had used the spa unaware of the cost until it showed on the bill. So be aware it costs extra. Perhaps this could be clearer on the website.

The staff are fantastic, the pub is really great (the ales are perfect), and the curry house on the middle floor is excellent too. Whether you want to spend time in Glossop, or walk in the hills, the location is ideal. The cooked breakfast is made to order and really tasty.

This is a great place to stay, except for one big thing: every morning (including Sundays), the restaurant on the middle floor (between the pub and the rooms) is cleaned from 5.30am. The rooms are really warm (with no fans or aircon), so in the summer the windows are likely to be open. That makes the cleaning very, very loud - almost like the hoover is in the room with you. I can't imagine anyone being able to sleep past 5.30. I'd love to book here again, but would only do so if I knew this wouldn't happen.

Our room,breakfast and location were all very good. The hotel in general needs a little attention to detail. For example some of the carpets are frayed in places and some paintwork needs refreshing. The staff were excellent. Nothing too much trouble.

Reception staff were curt and dismissive. Spa left a lot to be desired and little to no management by staff, with children running wild and unattended and sauna and steam room doors left open meaning the rooms were not working as they should function. Jacuzzi also luke warm at best

Lodge looked a bit tired outside area needed attention.- broken gate, grass needed cutting path needed re pointing dome of the stone slabs move when you walked on. I think it would be nice if you had a grocery shop on site and a take away menu for the restaurant
