We normally stay in a hotel and booked a room at this B&B by error, but what a surprise ! We had an amazing room, well equipped, squeaky clean and lovely decorated. We were there for just one night but I could have happily stay there for 2 weeks. Jayne could give the big hotels a run for their money. As (retired) airline crew we have seen 'it all' and recognise a good thing when we see it. Put her in charge of your hotels, Marriotts, Hiltons, Best Westerns and others ...! Walking distance from the old town. Ideal for the ferry, a mere 12 minutes drive.

Everybody needs a discreet night light. No hotel provides that yet. I bring my own sometimes. Handle bars in the shower, please ! Stairs only, but my dear 92 year old husband coped well.

From the moment we stepped in, to be greeted by the friendly and welcoming staff at reception, we were more than happy. The bedroom [twin beds, as requested] was large, light and airy, and the facilities were excellent. Northgate House is close to the Abbey, which we enjoyed visiting. Breakfast was varied, and good quality, fully satisfying our needs. I would also like to recommend, and give special mention to, a quite excellent Farm Shop, within a couple of minutes walk, where we found lovely local produce, at very reasonable prices.

Quite honestly, I can think of nothing I didn't like. If I had one tiny quibble, there were not quite enough dedicated parking spaces, and I think we have used one belonging to houses nearby.

Ana prepares a nice breakfast. Cooked options are eggs and porridge. This was a second visit for me, and the main difference was that I got a better room. Otherwise, this was another very nice stay.

Spacious rooms, good location and easy to access on the ground floor. The bed in the bedroom was also really comfortable and the table in the living room was well equipped and set out nicely.

We booked for four adults but only one bed was made up. We were told we had to make up the sofa bed ourselves, and when we did it was more of a single bed than a double. This meant 2/4 guests didn’t sleep well at all as they were squashed into a single sofa bed. The bathroom also had a bad smell and the water pressure in the shower wasn’t great but

Had dinner in bar, not possible to have a tab. Food good. At 9.10 tried to order a dessert, kitchen closed. Poor service imho. Following morning decided to have a continental breakfast. No spaces available for any time. Had a look in the breakfast area a bit later and loads of space. This hotel needs to get its act in order, you’re in the hospitality business and should be making just a tiny effort to accommodate your guests with basic requirements.

Parking-in particular at the front entrance, where one vehicle took up the spa e of a possible 2 vehicles. Parking at rear of building requires to be better organised as some vehicles were taking up 2 spaces in particular on the gravel. Bed side lamp was not working. No shelf for toothbrush etc or robe/towel hook available in bathroom. Noisy floor boards in room above-could hear every step!
