  I used to travel a lot on business. Following retirement and then the covid pandemic, the need to travel went away. This was our first hotel visit since covid so, perhaps standards and expectations have changed? In a hotel we want to feel like it is a bit bit special these days. Sadly, although, fine, it lacked that specialness that so many British chain hotels also lack. We picked a club room, it was a little tired and we simply could not get comfy in the bed. A pillow menu may have helped, are they still offered? With no air conditioning, an open window was a must for us, until there was a mega racket from some bars across the canal culminating in fireworks at 11.30pm and music and shouting until beyond one am on Sunday morning. This is NOT the fault of the hotel but should be considered in choosing the hotel. Also, though mentioned in the lift, you need to put out a "make up my room" label by 10am, otherwise nobody services your room. Reception didn't tell us and we missed the sign in the lift. It was a little frustrating. We really are not picky - we wanted to love the experience - it just didn't quite get there for us.

  The beds were awful. The one in the main bedroom was so hard I couldn’t sleep on it. The sofa bed in the living room was only a single whereas we had been led to believe two people could sleep on here. Luckily there was also a very large corner sofa which my son and I ended up both having to sleep on. The shower over the bath was old, the temperature kept fluctuating and the shower head was broken.
