Should preface by saying it rained the whole stay so it was a bit of a let down with no chance of seeing Mt Fuji and the gondola not running. The bus to reach the Hotel was more convenient than expected, but make sure to have the driver tell you when to get off. The front desk was straight forward and not very friendly. The room was spacious with a partial view of the mountains and the roof. We arrived later in the day and there are nicer rooms with full length windows and views. Dinner was plentiful and average with more Japanese than Western choices. The dining room was just serviceable with cafeteria tables and lighting (they should make more of an effort here). The onsen was pleasant (altho a bit of mold on the ceiling) and obviously would be nicer with Mt Fuji view.

The hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Ashi, right beside Hakone Shrine and the Tori gate out in the lake. The hotel runs a shuttle bus from the nearby transpot hub on the banks of the lake, where buses to and from Odawara as well as the sightseeing cruise ships can be boarded. The hotel was also extremely clean and well presented. Our room was spacious and comfortable.

It’s pretty close to the main train station. The (restaurant) staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the onsite onsen. The town shut down early, so it was convenient having the Box Burger right there.
Pro-tip - Five minutes away is a cute shrine “Hien Waterfall” that should be visited.

Á jewel in Japan so many attraction to see and do.
Á jewel in Japan so many attraction to see and do. I would recommend booking a room with your own Hot Tub or an Onsen that is attached to your hotel great to soak after a days sightseeing. The Hakone Free Pass is also a must allowing your to use almost all public transport, Pirate Cruise ships and cable cars to get you around the Hakone region and see all it has to offer. It's hard to believe this wonderful spot is only just over an hour on the Shinkansen from Tokyo.

Hakone was just to stop we needed after 5 days in Tokyo.
Hakone was just to stop we needed after 5 days in Tokyo. It was a just so peaceful and a welcomed change of pace. The town itself is small but can be busy during the day. But there are plenty of places to discover. Get the Tozan train and head over to Ashi lake. Take in the majestic Mount Fuji (if it's not cloudy) and just take it all in.

The onsen was great - sauna and hot pools, plus relaxation areas and massage chairs. The spa treatment included a much needed (human) massage, which was also great.
Overall, the hotel is a bit confusing - a mix of three different buildings and names, each with its own reception. It's looking its age a bit and could do with a spruce up but the room was large (for Japan) and comfortable.
The restaurant was OK, but not the best food we had in Japan.

The highlights of Hakone for me were the old Tokaido Road, the shrine at Motohakone, the Edo era checking station and the Onshi Hakone Park. There are so many other attractions in Hakone which I didn’t have the chance to see. The 3 day Hakone pass is a must.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit.
It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring.
Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND renting a car to explore the surrounding...
HIGHLY RECOMMEND renting a car to explore the surrounding area. What a delight to discover new little towns and see Fuji at different times throughout the week. LOVED the skyline drive and Melody Lane.
Beautiful traditional hotel in the mountains. Our room was very spacious (twin with an onsen and it was so worth it). We have also checked out the communal onsen which had both an inside and outside pools and a very chill vibe. Amazing traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast - don't expect cereal or eggs, this is very different to a European breakfast. We loved walking around the hotel in our yucatas. Overall an amazing stay. I'd also recommend the Hakone sculpture park afterwards - it's a 20 minute walk away or a bus ride.
Amazing place! Here you experience the mixture of western comfort and Japanese authenticity. The rooms are really big, and the Asian beds are spacious, soft and comfy. We loved the onsen and breakfasts were various and very tasty.
There is a bus stop in front of the hotel (like 3 meters from the door). From this stop there runs a direct bus to Shinjuku station. You can travel with luggage, as you don’t need to walk or take a taxi in Hakone.
We loved complimentary Japanese socks! Thank you!
The hotel is situated at a very convenient location - 2min walk from Naka Gora station and it offers shuttle services from Gora station. Google map doesn’t show the most convenient way of getting there so we were intimidated at first, but turned out if you buy the Hakone free pass and take the cable car, it’s only 2min walk from Naka Gora station. We enjoyed the onsen, the free yukatas, and the traditional dinner and breakfast. Very good service and free coffee and sake at the lobby!
This ryokan is so elegant and inviting. Our room was amazing with an incredible view. The private onsen in our room was so relaxing and just delightful. One of the nicest hotel showers ever! The kaiseki dinner was beautiful, and even though Japanese breakfast isn't to my taste, the presentation itself was lovely. It was such a great one night splurge, so relaxing and rejuvenating. The shuttle service was great and made travel to and from Hakone-Yumoto a breeze.
We loved staying here. This is a traditional Japanese experience and well worth the money. The hotel is extremely well maintained. We loved trying the private onsen and the banquet dinner was exceptional. The staff were eager to help and very easy to converse with. There is a bus stop right outside. Easily accessed by public transport from Odawara. Lake Ashi and the Togendai cablecar is easily accessed by bus. There is a botanic wetlands a short walk away.
Mt Fuji peaking through the clouds was seen through the hotel room window, with the hotel located in a quiet forest spot, it's on the list for a must visit next time we stay in Hakone. From the generous variety at the buffet, to the well equipped onsen bathhouse, it was truly a wonderful stay. The futon beds were easy to arrange ourselves, super warm even on a cold night. They've even got fairy lights out in the garden at night with great photo locations.
I love the tranquillity of the surroundings - located mid of Mt Hakone, away from main road, little crowd of guests staying in nearby guesthouses and especially the view of Mt Fuji and Lake Ashi at the window. There was a day I met the staff who was there to urgently repair the onsen - he was very polite and tries his best to answer questions. The room and beds are clean, doesn't feel dated and no odd smells (that is if the tatami scent don't count).
Great value for money considering that you have access to the onsen at the main building, which is excellent. The public open air bath has a lovely view and on both occasions that I used it, I was the only person hence it felt like a private bath.
The room is small but it works well for a solo traveller.
Hotel is very close to the Yumoto station, just less than 5 minutes away. The staff are all very helpful and fluent in English.
Central location that is a very short walk from the train station and cable car/ropeway that takes you to Lake Ashi. Great restaurants nearby, didn’t eat at the hotel however heard the food was lovely. Free soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and snacks in the evenings for a set amount of hours. Local convenience stores nearby. Great spa and onsen facilities within the hotel. Rooms spacious. Surrounding grounds of hotel beautiful.
The heavy snow in Hakone has caused the buses to stop at Hakone Yumoto, and the hotel owner picked us up personally at Lawson near Kowakudani stop. The hotel lobby faces a Japanese garden, with a fireplace inside the lobby, enjoying the view of the heavy snow outside, which also prevents you from enjoying various entertainment facilities in Hakone. Each room can use the onsen in different time slots every day.
The staff (Kyoko) was so very accommodating and helpful. The private onsens were perfect for the members of my family afraid of public baths, while still providing a hot spring experience. There was only a single fee for using the bath. Everything about this place is very fair priced and great value. The close 30 min walk from Lake Ashi (my favorite part of Hakone) made this place a hidden gem.
It’s my 3rd stay at this hotel. Love the place and we always book the lake view room. Excellent and helpful staff, very near the togendai bus station. Lovely food and clean rooms. Outdoor Onsen is the best! They provided samue and yukata. Despite some things below, we will still continue coming to this hotel. Best one in Hakone Lake Ashi area.
Beautiful lake location. Staff at front desk speaks English and is super helpful in arranging taxi tour, and spend 20min to help with our English app to reserve Shinkansen train.
Onsen inside hotel, with amenities like massage chair in well equipped makeup room.
Stunning views of Lake Ashi from our room. Convenient location to sightseeing cruise boat. Easy access to buses connecting to other areas of Hakone, including the Hakone-Yumoto train station. The bed was comfortable and the bathtub was spacious.
Nice location and a 15 minute walk to the Hakone-Yumoto station. in the mornings they offer a hotel shuttle to the station until 10:30am. Room is spacious.
in the onsen there is a massage chair for free use which I liked to use after a long day.
It was very near Hakone-yumoto station, and the hotel has an onsen (I think that onsen charges were not included in the booking.com prices). The staff was also very friendly, we could leave our baggage before and after check-out.
Lake Ashi view from the hotel is very impressive.
Quite and Perfect for taking a rest from a long trip.
Room is large and comfortable. Located next to Hakonemachi-ko station for pirate ship and bus station, very convenient.
The front desk was very friendly and helpful. It was a perfect location to tour Hakone, right next to the train and cable car station in Gora. This hotel is very clean, and the onsen was very relaxing.
The staff will wait on you hand and foot. Public outdoor Onsen is very beautiful. The rooms are huge and luxurious. The property itself is beautiful. Things to do in Hakone are walk able from the hotel.
Very nice large room with lake view. In-house onsen with large outdoor pool. The hotel is located directly on Lake Ashi and offers a beautiful view of Mount Fuji.
