We really enjoyed our 2 nights at this hotel. The room was very spacious and comfortable, and it had wonderful air conditioning (or heating for winter). Hot water was immediate in the shower, which was a blessing! We were also quite pleased that there were different types of sleeping pillows to choose from, which is always nice, and the room was very clean. We were surprised at how quiet the hotel was, considering it was near a road, but we slept like babies. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and we especially liked the buffet breakfast. Lots of food choices, including a full traditional English breakfast! The hotel felt very safe and it was well-taken care of. Some parts of the hotel need more updating, but it is a work in progress that they are working on. This was a quality, economical hotel, and we would definitely stay here again. Recommended!

FAQs about hotels in Reading

Work and Play Beside the Thames

At the meeting point of the Thames and Kennet rivers, affluent Reading is close to London, yet far enough to feel completely different. For this reason it is an important business hub, particularly for IT. The M4 motorway runs directly from here to Heathrow Airport, and trains from its station terminate at Paddington.

The town has literary connections to Jane Austen – whose school was in the Abbey Gateway – and Oscar Wilde, who was imprisoned in its jail. Nowadays, the Reading Festival is its biggest cultural event and has earned a place in the town hall museum. However, its most impressive exhibit is a replica of the Bayeux Tapestry.

The Reading shopping options include Broad Street and The Oracle, a riverside complex also housing bars, cinemas and restaurants. The river continues south to one of the town’s green spaces, some housing golf courses. Forbury Gardens features a bandstand and large lion statue, and next door are ruins of an abbey founded by Henry I.

Potential day trips include the Roman remains at Silchester, and river cruises to Henley-on-Thames, while sport lovers should visit the Madejski Stadium, home of Reading FC and London Irish rugby club.

Booking.com’s Reading accommodation includes hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

    We didn't visit Reading.

We didn't visit Reading. We went a day before and a night after to Hanley-on-Thames with children. It was hardly 20-25 minutes drive and it was great outdoor activities combo area with various playground/ bouncy castle and riverside walk, various options available for boat hiring/ boat trips. Parking is quite tight in later hours of day, so I recommend if anyone like to visit here, try to reach in first half otherwise all two car parks get full too soon.

This trip was a trip down memory lane as I was a student on Randolph-Macon Woman's College program at the University of Reading, 1975-76. I was last in Reading, July 2001. The University has obviously grown & changed, but the neighborhood around the Whiteknights Gate remains somewhat the same. Shout out to The Three Tuns, where the RMWC girls frequented. The historical sites in Reading are well worth exploring as are the surrounding areas, such as Sonning, Woking.

    Nice quiet town.

Nice quiet town. Only about 25 minutes away from London by train. If London is too busy, noisy or crowded for you but want a base that's not too far, then Reading is perfect in my view. We went during the last 10 days of July and we found London a lot warmer than Reading which had more decent temperatures throughout our stay.

For a University Halls this place is very clean, tidy and quiet. Even though you share a communal area it is just the kitchen at the end of a long corridor so really feels no different than being in a budget hotel. Ample parking which is included in your stay. Absolutely perfect accommodation for Reading Festival. Easy to get a bus from campus to town centre and then on to the festival.

Friendly staff, lovely room. Massive bed. Car park discount validation was super easy. Would definitely stay here again should I need a place in Reading again. Loved the disco balls by the entrance, and would’ve liked to have had a drink at the bar. Great vibes to the place. Great price for great hotel.
