Penrith is a picturesque little town that is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Ullswater area. We found it the perfect place to lay over following along drive up from Chatsworth that day. We returned to this hotel as we loved it when the children...
We returned to this hotel as we loved it when the children were young, but now our children are growing teenagers, the room was too small and too hot. There was no air conditioning in the room and for the price, there really should have been. The food was lovely and the staff pleasant, however the swimming times were restrictive for children. We visited Long Meg and her daughters, which was lovely and the car parking was free. If it's a nice day, take a picnic. Ideal location. Travelled by train and walked to hotel. Taxi driver at train station could have got the fare but he said its only a 5 minute walk from here. Arrived after 8 so couldn't sample evening meal but plenty of options near by for food Really nice ace to stay and would return. We found Penrith a great place to make our base to do daily drives around the northwest UK, including the Lake District, Carlisle and to visit part of Hadrian's Wall. Penrith is easy to get to by train. We hired a car locally (thanks, Eden Garage). All the facilities of a medium sized town were available to us. Definitely hope to come back again as only been back home a day and I miss it.
