Nice staff, clean hotel, bed comfy, plenty tea and milk in room. Only issue bar shuts by 11pm and shower was trickling water. Great for one night stay over.

    This is a very small and quiet residential town . Don't go there for the night life or boutique shopping . The beach is sandy and good for swimming. Lots of interesting places for day trips near by.

    Great place to eat in Sandown is Bellamy's Bistro and the Reef is also acceptable. There is a little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating on the front where you can get coffees and ice-cream. Sandown itself is very rundown due to investors buying up property and sitting on it, which is a real shame as the genuine local business-owners are lovely and deserve beter support from council/government!

    Sandown is looking a bit uncared for in places but it has a good selection of places to eat , a great beach and lots to do. We ate in Flannagans- a bar near the pier, CaulkHeads- a pub about 300 yards from the seafront and had an Indian- takeaway from Eastern Eye- about 300 yards from the property we stayed in. We drank in Scruffy Jacks-a bar on the pier and had icecream from the cafe on the pier. We used the Sainsburys supermarket in the High Street. We bought a weekly explorer ticket for Southern Vectis that allowed unlimited travel on the entire bus network . My son is an adult now but the beach is great for kids of any age. There is a zoo close by and Dinosaur themed attractions further along the front. The pier has an amusement arcade and is open all day till late.

    The Sandown beach is lovely and sandy with good rocks and bits of sea glass for collecting. If you walk in the direction of Shanklin you’ll come across some lovely cafes. The town itself feel rather desolate as there are a few boarded up run down hotels. There’s not much variety in food with mostly British food and pubs around. If you’re looking to enjoy the beach though you won’t be disappointed.

    We only strolled along the Esplanade on the Sunday night of our arrival. Very little was open, but it was a Sunday night. Not impressed. The former Ocean Hotel, obviously at some time burnt down, is an eyesore, likewise another building that appears to be collapsing. Found our bus stop quite easily the next day. Didn't bother spending time here. Sand was greyish with lots of shells.

    I Love Sandown, i have had many great holidays there over the years with my parents when i was younger and my own children now. It will always hold a special place in my heart. We don't visit the island as much as we would like as it is expensive to travel to the island and as a family of 5 it can be very costly. We haven't visited for a few years and i was sad to see the current state of the town. We walked along the town before going to the arcade one day and so many shops are empty, this was once a thriving town full of shops and little places to buy your souvenirs, there wasn't anywhere like that really. They also don't have a bank or a post office anymore, or any health care. (I have a elderly relative that has to travel a distance for a doctors apt or a dental apt). The ocean hotel still sits there in ruins which i imagine back in the day used to be a grand hotel. There is still a pier which is fun for the kids and plenty of places to eat and have ice cream along the front. Sandown is a beautiful place but just needs some TLC as over the years it has been neglected.

    The area was very nice with a massive park at the front. The hotel was very spacious. The bathroom was super clean. The staff were the best bit about the hotel. They were so accommodating and so nice.
