Maldron Hotel Newcastle, hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne

Located in Newcastle City Center, Maldron Hotel features free WiFi and a private court yard.

First, it came with an iron and an ironing board - always a necessity when I've got shirts in my luggage. The staff were very helpful despite a bit of curmudgeonliness on my part over the fact that there was no record of my early check in. Breakfast actually had enough seats and the choice of food was good - a choice of traditional English or Continental styles is much better than one or the other.

Sleeperz Hotel Newcastle, hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne

Located in the very heart of the city, moments from the city center railway station, Sleeperz Newcastle has countless iconic landmarks steps away from its doorstep.

Fantastic location. The train station and a Metro station are 5 minutes walking. The Castle, the Cathedral and the famous Grey Street with multiple shopping malls, theater, restaurants, pubs, etc. are right next to the hotel. Quayside walk along River Tyne is about 7 minutes walking. St James Stadium is about 15 minutes walking. Very easy to get Uber rides to and from the hotel. Hotel staff is very courteous and helpful. A decent breakfast is served from 7-11 am. Rooms are basic, on the smaller side (but not by European standards) but adequate. Storage space is somewhat limited and the safety box is inside the bed frame! Hot water was scorching -hot! WIFI is super-fast: probably the fastest I've ever experienced in a hotel. I think it's a nice option for short stay in Newcastle.

FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Center, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Center, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sports, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognized (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodations all over this happening city.

Easy jump-off point for exploring Northumberland, including the coast, Roman ruins, National Trust sights. We did not spend much time in the city itself as our primary objective was to meet up with family before heading north. The central downtown was interesting to explore (river walk) and fort & old cathedral just blocks from our hotel. I would probably take advantage of the Hop-on/Hop-off bus if I were going to Newcastle again to see more of the tourist sights.

Four night stay so we're able to spend 2 days at Beamish, nearly saw everything. Bus stop near hotel, straight to Eldon Bus Station, 50 minutes Bus ride , free with pass! One day at lovely Alnwick, told about little tea shop Stawberry Lounge down alley off main street, food and cakes excellent. Prebooked meal at The Treehouse as wouldn't get in without a booking, magical. 3 buses go from Haymarket bus station which is next to Eldon Square station. X15 takes 2 hours as takes coastal route, quicker are X18 and X19. Nice meal at the Hardrock Cafe on the Quayside near the Millennium Bridge.

Fourth time in Newcastle, just in love with the town. Beutiful architecture and truly friendly people. Easy to use as a base to visit other cities (ex: Edinburgh or York) for the day. And the seaside coast is beautiful as well (accessible by Metro). Too many good things to list in a short paragraph but let's just say I wish I could live there :)

The location is perfect if you have a car and plan to visit not just Newcastle but Northumberland. It is located in a very easy entrance to the city, avoiding all the traffic. It has a big and save parking space where you can leave the car and walk to the city centre. The staff was very nice, including the Indian restaurant that is located at the hotel. The food was delicious. The room was clean and every day they made it up it perfectly.

I always stay here when I visit Newcastle. Near enough the city centre to be able to make the most of the city, but far enough away not to be rowdy. The rooms are always clean and the showers are the best I've ever used in a hotel. Free toiletries are top notch too. Reception staff are lovely and have local knowledge of great places to eat out if you don't fancy the on site restaurant.
