Malmaison Oxford, hotel in Oxford

This converted Victorian prison is now a stunning boutique hotel offering unique luxury accommodations in historic Oxford. Limited private parking is available for a surcharge.

Great location in Oxford City center, within walking distance to all the sites to see including museums, colleges, and shopping. Very comfortable bed, good shower, and quiet room. Nice restaurant on site, but with so many great local cafes & traditional pubs, we chose to eat out each meal. About a 90 minute drive to the Cotswolds.

My wife and I loved this place. The service and staff was exceptional, helpful, and so kind. The room was grand and completely exceeded my expectations. My wife felt pampered. Loved the library. The food and drinks were very good. The location worked well for us walking and exploring the places we had wanted to see. Would love to stay here again. Thank you!

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

We were only in Oxford for one night, but we visited the Prison Museum, which was fascinating, and very informative, our guide was very knowledgeable. Even had a strange experience in one of the cells!! We went out to dinner in the evening, to Zizzi, we have eaten here before and it never disappoints. Once we parked the car we walked everywhere else, its a beautiful place

We did one of the free Footprints tours (although we did tip well!). It was hosted by a PhD student studying in Oxford and he was very knowledgeable and it was a very enjoyable tour. The Natural History Museum is well worth a visit, and the Pitt Rivers museum. We enjoyed a wander around the Covered Market. We took a boat trip for about 40 mins. Very relaxing but not a huge amount to see. And just lovely to wander around the streets and enjoy the architecture and ambience of Oxford.

Very picturesque, amazingly green, but extremely touristic, flooded with large groups of school children or teenagers from all over the world, summer students and visitors, so one must be warned that city centre is swarming with an international crowd of people, in August at least, since this is when I was there.

Oxford is a walk through history. There is a solemnity which encompasses it as well as everyday stores, stalls and attractions. The Ashmoleum is a great museum to visit. For me the starting point was the bus tour which I boarded directly at the train stn. to capture an overview and essence of Oxford;Had a great pub lunch at the 3 goats which I stumbled upon by accident .For me it was even more special as it is a detoxifying place with no laptops or IT allowed---you can still get a drink and gr8 grub

Absolutely lovely little hotel! Very friendly and helpful staff. Charming room (we had a family room) with comfy beds. Hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood, in walking distance to nice restaurants, colleges and city centre. Convenient free parking in the hotel courtyard. English breakfast was good, in an attached glass pavilion. Very lovely garden with tables and umbrellas that can be used for breakfast. We happily return, if our son is accepted to Oxford.
