HIGHLY RECOMMEND renting a car to explore the surrounding area. What a delight to discover new little towns and see Fuji at different times throughout the week. LOVED the skyline drive and Melody Lane.

Very good city if you wanna walk around and relax in a very calm city. Also good if you like trekking. Although, it is not so easy to transfer around different spots in the city, and the transportation is a little bit expensive.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money.
The Hakone Open Air Museum and Gora Park Crafthouse were amazing

The hakone free pass is excellent and a must for all visitors. There is an abundance of sites and tourist offerings about the area. We did the railways the open air museum the boat and ropeway and achieved all of this within about 24 hours. It is a beautiful destination and a must from the hustle and bustle of the city life

It’s the perfect break from the city buzz of Tokyo. There are arts and nature and the sights to explore. A hidden treasure that will impress those looking for a slower pace to unwind. I feel like kids and teenagers may find it boring.

Hakone is a fun area.
Hakone is a fun area. It’s very easy to get around on buses, cable car, and ropeway (gondola). The FreePass is a must. The lake and Mt Fuji are beautiful but so is the surrounding forest. The museums are quite nice too. We especially had a fun time at the Open Air Museum.
Amazing service and the location next to the ropeway allows for easy transportation around hakone and access to lake ashinoko. Much better than traveling around by bus which can get stuck in traffic. Meals and service were top notch and the private Onsens were fantastic. They have several you can reserve which direct views of the forest. We reserved the rooftop Onsen with panoramic views of the mountain valley and it was unforgettable. We also had a private Onsen on the deck of our room which was wonderful to wake up and soak in.
Hotel is about 13 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station; a quite steep walk but still manageable and you get to enjoy the scenery along the way. My family and I really enjoyed the stay. The service was exceptional, the meals included are delicious. (I was worried about the portion might be too small, but it turned out to be very satisfying, even the kid meals are very thoughtful) the room is spacious, clean and has a private onsen! Also the futon bed is comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.
While the location of this ryokan is not so convenient(we went there by Odakyu bus from Shinjuku, but there was a pickup service from hotel to nearest bus stop “Plaza hotel Mae”), my mom and I had a great time in their onsen with good food and the best facilities. All staff are well trained and very polite, every single thing they put in the room was delightful and thoughtful. It was worth to spend my vacation. I would like to go back again when I have a chance!!
This onsen hotel was amazing! The staff were incredibly friendly and outgoing whenever we had any questions, and were more than willing to help us with getting accustomed to the area. The facilities were clean, the views were beautiful, and the onsen was extremely relaxing.
I would recommend this onsen hotel to anyone who's looking to stay in Hakone, and strongly encourage folks who are visiting Japan from overseas to give it a look.
The heavy snow in Hakone has caused the buses to stop at Hakone Yumoto, and the hotel owner picked us up personally at Lawson near Kowakudani stop. The hotel lobby faces a Japanese garden, with a fireplace inside the lobby, enjoying the view of the heavy snow outside, which also prevents you from enjoying various entertainment facilities in Hakone. Each room can use the onsen in different time slots every day.
Traditional Japanese hotel with VERY friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner were great.
Room was very spacious!
Good location, close to the cable car station, easy to reach. We got out at Kami-Gora station but you better get out at Sounzan Station then you don’t have to climb the steep hill with your luggage.
Ideal location for a day of visiting Hakone!
Make sure you check out the Onsen!
This hotel was a bit of a surprise. Very retro the room was an old style ryokan limited amenities in your room.
A private Onsen hot spring which was amazing. The best part of my stay was the owners they went above and beyond to help us they drove us to restaurants for dinner and other sightseeing locations they even drove my family to the local train station It was such a great stay.
Everything!!!! The hotel has excellent facilities and amazing location right on Lake Ashi
. Walk to the pirate ship located a 2 min walk away and you can connect via the ship or bus stop (out the front) to the rope way, trains or other points of interest. Our room had an amazing view and the onsen was beautiful. Staff also have umbrellas out the front when it rains.
The Mikawaya Ryokan is a well-preserved historic hot spring inn located in a central part of the mountainous Hakone region. The Tozan bus stops right in front, making it easy to hop on with the tourist-friendly Odakyu Freepass. The onsen baths are well-kept and are soothing. The meals are exceptional. The ryokan staff speak good English and are very hospitable.
Hotel is well located and just next to Lake and main area of Lake Ashi in Hakone. Bus stop, Boat terminal, Restaurents, Cafes etc are less than 1 Minute walk. Property is little old but it is nice. Dinner and Breakfast is avaiable at Hotel but we did not eat at Hotel. Onsen is avaible and it was nice.
Overall happy with the stay.
We loved our stay at Mount View Hakone the staff was extremely kind and accommodating. Our room was cozy and clean. And the onsens both private and public were great experiences. This is a fantastic deal for the amount of amenities the hotel has. I would recommend staying here to anyone.
In front of Lake Ashi, this hotel has an amazing location
Our room faced the lake, and it was perfect
Staff was very helpful, especially the dining room manager
The Onsen at this hotel is amazing and the hotel is very clean
There was attention to all the small details in the hotel
The hotel is located in beautiful nature, the view was phantastic! We could see Mt Fuji and the lake.
Our tradional Japanese style room and the onsen were amazing as well, the hotel staff was very friendly.
I will come back again in the future!
Thank you very much
I love everything about the hotel. It’s located in a beautiful area and it has an amazing very well maintained garden that gives a spectacular view!
The private onsen was amazing, especially after a long day around Hakone. Will definitely stay again.
Nice location and a 15 minute walk to the Hakone-Yumoto station. in the mornings they offer a hotel shuttle to the station until 10:30am. Room is spacious.
in the onsen there is a massage chair for free use which I liked to use after a long day.
The location is great, only a few minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto station and the shopping district.
The hotel staff are very nice, both breakfast and dinner are superb.
The room and onsen facilities are clean and well maintained.
The staff was exceptional. Courteous, friendly, and responsive. The rooms were large and wonderful. The spa (onsen) was a delight for my wife and myself.
For any Japan visitor , the Fujiya Hotel should be high on their list!
Great stay in a hotel focused on providing the Japanese Onsen and Kaizeki experience. The Onsen with lake and Mt Fuji view is really amazing, as well as with the whole experience of wearing the yukata throughout your stay.
Great hotel meeting most expectations at that level, great room and comfort, great location by the lake, nice outdoor onsen, delicious food. Staff showed a lot of hospitality the Japanese way.
