The location is amazing. Next to the monastery, pretty quiet even though there are restaurants near by. From one room window you see the street and the monastery and from the other room a vineyard. Our host was very polite and we manage to communicate easily with him (something that is not guarantee in Italy since most Italians refuse to speak English). He even helped us with our bags and informed as a bit for the area. The rooms were clean. he even had a cold wine bottle for us in the fridge. He was very polite and trying to help with everything.

This place is absolutely dreamy. It was our first time in Tuscany, and we did travel around a bit, for example we went to see San Gimignano. However, in the end, no place we saw was better than Panzano in Chianti, and the views from the back of the Pensione were the best of what we had anywhere. The Pensione is part of the Vignamaggio estate, but is location-wise completely separate - it's located in the center of Panzano. Other parts of the estate, such as La Fattoria, are a short drive down the hill. Located in an old building, there are certainly some quirks, such as a lot of up and down stairs to get anywhere within the hotel. Breakfast is served differently than I've seen anywhere else - they bring out an individual tray to each person, but besides asking you how you want your eggs, you can't really customize it (though for younger kids they do customize). It was a mix of sweet and savory items. If you come here, make sure to visit La Fattoria for lunch or drinks, and maybe for one of the arts classes (or wine tastings) that they offer. We did a cyanotype printing class which was so much fun!

The property is a 700 years old villa that is located in a charming village, a few steps away from the shops and restaurants, while being located on top of a hill with a great view of vineyards and Toscan hills. The property is a small castle with a lot of history in it though with all the modern comfort. There is a swimming pool in the beautiful garden that we enjoyed quite a bit (almost every day) after a day trip visiting vlllages in the area. The breakfast is divine! Our wonderful host Lorenzo is a chef and many of the delicacies served a breakfast are home made. The staff is warm, friendly and attended to our every need. Being a family of four with 2 young adults (21 and 18 years) , we stayed in the Attico suite that has a very large bedroom with a separate bedroom for the children. We had a wonderful stay thanks to the great attention from the staff and the recommandations from Lorenzo regarding restaurants, how to get to Florence for a day trip, which villages to visit in the Chianti region and the best vineyard to have a wine tasting. Our whole stay was a real charm. We had a wonderful 4 days stay in Villa Il Defino. We would love to visit again. Thank you Lorenzo for being such a great host.

We loved our stay at this beautiful villa. All of our expectations were exceeded. The views are incredible, the grounds lovely and relaxing. We enjoyed several nice hikes in the area, wine tasting, and the pool. Breakfast was amazing, and dinner both nights of our stay served some of the best food we had in Italy. We hope we can return to this idyllic place!

    Beautiful village it is like something out of a fairytale.

    Beautiful village it is like something out of a fairytale. We eat in a little wine bar with stunning views over vineyards, Divine Chianti restaurant. Delicious. We went to see the monastery, it is worth a visit. All in all a must visit if you are in the region. We stayed in the hills above the town and the views were stunning.
