The architecture in Madrid is beautiful and whilst it's not as hip as Barcelona it's also not as frenetic and it's an easy place to get around on foot if you're reasonable fit and able. A beautiful, lovely and interesting city with warm and friendly people. We visiited the Grand Via, the El Rastro sunday international market, the Mercado de San Miguel where one can eat all varities of Spanish foods. We were in transit and only stayed two days. Did some shopping, spent the afternoon in El Retiro park and had drinks in a cool little bar recommended by the hotel, called Viva Madrid. I liked Madrid however, if I go, next time I would go when its not very hot as we were walking around a lot and it was tiring. A lot of the locations are very close so it is ideal and you can tick a lot off your itinerary quickly. My favorite and recommended place to eat was Honest Greens. It's honestly amazing it has amazing salads, fries etc as well as a cafe. We walked it everywhere but I do recommend the buses and metro especially if it's hot or else its easy to get around. The airport was just half an hour away with metro and you can get to the city centre easily too (the subway system is great in Madrid generally). The whole hotel has this interesting design to it, that I liked the lot, especially the hall area where you can grab a drink, watch TV with others or just have a chat.
