Edinburgh Castle

Stretching down almost 100 feet, this tree-like coral shelf lies in the middle of a beautiful garden of gorgonians. It’s in these plants that the rare pygmy seahorse makes its home – so Amed Wall is your best shot of catching a glimpse. Reef sharks and sea turtles also roam these waters, so there’s no shortage of deep-sea wonders to check out.

Having a tour guide is recommended and you should plan on starting the tour around midday so that you get to see the canon firing at 1 pm. You do need to be able to walk on cobblestones and walk uphill. Not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobiity

In order to truly understand a country, it is essential to first become acquainted with its history, as well as its cultural and ethnographic heritage. The tour I took part in at Edinburgh Castle was led by an outstanding guide who skillfully maintained our interest throughout the experience. With a touch of humor, she presented only the most important and noteworthy highlights, making the tour both engaging and informative.

    Love it!

Love it! Took us longer than anticipated to walk around due to the crowds, in September. We pre-purchased out tickets for 11 a.m. thinking we'd end with the 1 p.m. gun salute. However, earlier crowds were still there at 11 a.m. and it just got busier and busier. It became tough to really enjoy the exhibits and the interior rooms got quite warm (it was wet the day we were there so we were carrying jackets). There were also lines to get into various spaces. When we left at 2 p.m. the line ups to get in were wild and I can't imagine what their experience would have been like. I would highly recommend getting your tickets in advance for the earlier time slots, if you really want to enjoy the exhibits around the castle.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city. Most of the interior has been stripped. The Crown jewels were absolutely nothing compared to The Tower of London exhibition. Very unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies all cobbles and slopes. Difficult with a stick. All in all a bit of a tourist trap all around the area.

We saw Edinburgh Castle on our last trip but there is always something new to see. Look for the room with the tapestries hanging from the wall - they took 13.5 years to complete. Missed that last time. There is a lot to see.

Room was spacious, and the views from the window are magnificent. Hotel was very easy to get to from the Edinburgh Waverley station. Breakfast is available upon request however I did not opt for breakfast. I booked the King Suite with City View and it did not disappoint. I could also view the fireworks from Edinburgh castle for the military tattoo they had during my stay.

The location is perfect. You're right across the street from the park, and Edinburgh Castle. Great location on the main road with TONS of shops and restaurants in every direction. Would definitely stay here again. The apartment was wonderful and a great retreat to rest your feet from all the walking.

I stayed at this hotel during a recent visit to Edinburgh and, while there were a few highlights, overall the experience was disappointing due to issues with cleanliness and poor communication around billing. On the positive side, the location is truly excellent – right next to the Caledonian Hotel and within walking distance of everything central. The view of Edinburgh Castle from the room was stunning, and the room itself was spacious, which is a rarity in city centre hotels.

Thanks to our host's directions, it was quite easy to find the apartment, which is very well situated on the Royal Mile, at cca 10 minutes of walking distance from the Edinburgh Castle. Our host met us there and kindly explained us the particularities of the place. The apartment was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated.

We arrived early in the morning from the US and were able to store our luggage at the Destiny Scotland office a few blocks away from the apartment. Located on Princes Street in New Town, the apartment itself is on the third floor and has a magnificent view of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street gardens. The apartment has everything you need. It's in a great location and we were able to walk everywhere including the Castle, the Royal Mile, Usher Hall, The Art museum and all the great shops and restaurants of New Town.

The location was excellent! The staff were very nice and the hotel itself was very nice too. We were close to everything and walked to the Edinburgh castle, restaurants and shops. We also did the hop-on-hop-off bus tour so we saw a lot of the city. Had delicious pizza at Bella Italia, very close to the hotel. Found a great bar, The Scotsman's Lounge, also very close to the hotel. They had local, live music which was wonderful. We closed the place down one night! We did not eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on the food.

Best central location very close to Edinburgh Castle right on the Royal Mile. Comfy historical apartment. 2 single beds and a queen bed. Fully equipped kitchenette. Free scoop of ice cream at the shoppe downstairs. The staff is friendly and helpful. A bit pricey, but sleeps up to 4 people. You will love this location for touring the Royal mile. Uber pickup spot is the Deacon Brodie’s Tavern at Lawnmarket X Bank Street.
