The fights! The glory! This iconic arena specialized in gory ends. Built in the 1st century, it held up to 80,000 spectators who came to witness gladiatorial combat and bloody reenactments of naval battles. When you look up at the stands, it doesn’t take much imagination to hear the deafening roar of the crowds or to picture the fierceness on display.

In my opinion it is highly overrated.
In my opinion it is highly overrated. On the outside it looks impressive, but once you're in - it's just a ruin. There are other Roman arenas that still function - operas, theatre, concert halls (like Verona or Pula) - this one is just a walkthrough. Sad, really.EGuest review byEgistSlovenia - 10.0

It's a beautiful place and if you have access to multiple places, I would recommend booking at least half a day, because it's not exactly small. If you only have access to the arena, then 30 minutes is enough. Entry is at a specific time (there's no point in getting there earlier) - they really strictly let you in at a specific time. Toilets are available inside (unless you have bought a ticket for just the arena).PGuest review byPavlikCzech Republic - 8.0
This was a bit of a disappointment.
This was a bit of a disappointment. We bought a guided tour but it was so crowded that we had to wait in line for a long time before even entering the site. And when we got in, there were so many people it was tough to hear our guide. Still, if we didn't have a guide, I'm sure it would have been much worse.DGuest review byDorothyCanada - 4.0

The Coliseum was fascinating, but when you leave, watch out for pickpockets and thieves. They operate extensively in this area. We saw two couples who were victims of unsuccessful attacks of these persons. There is no policing around this area, which makes you wonder why, as it is well known for its pick pockets and opportunistic theives.FGuest review byFranzAustralia - 10.0

Hotel Celio
Wonderful little hotel. Really close to the colosseum, and several good restaurants nearby. Beautiful mosaic floor tiles throughout. Very kind hosts/staff. They were really helpful and thinking along, and flexible when the tight schedule did not match for the regular breakfast times. They provided some food (a.o. delicious croissants) and coffee earlier, and on the departure day even a breakfast set to take on the way. I definitely recommend this place and would like to go there again.EGuest review byErwinNetherlands - 9.4
Firenze Boutique Rooms
Everything was perfect! The host was very friendly and always available if we needed anything. The instructions were clear and made our stay so easy. The apartment was very clean, just a short walk from the Colosseum and about 15 minutes to the Trevi Fountain. The location is excellent, close to the city center.AGuest review byAniArmenia - 8.3
Locanda al Viminale
The Host is supper friendly and speaks well many different languages, which in Italy it is not easy to find such persons. I loved the possibility of choosing the breakfast in advance and receiving it early hour in the room. The location it is surely one of the best in Rome, literally few minutes' walk to the Colosseum and Santa Maria Maggiore.NGuest review byNunoMozambique - 9.1

The staff is very friendly, the hotel is clean, and the location is excellent with a lovely atmosphere. The hotel treated us to a delicious bottle of champagne for our honeymoon stay. It’s a great place to stay near the Colosseum.MGuest review byMariiaUnited States - 8.1
Royal House
I had a wonderful stay at the Royal House Hotel in Rome. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. My room was very clean and comfortable, and the highlight was the stunning view of the Colosseum right outside my window—it doesn’t get more Roman than that! The location is perfect for exploring the city, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome, and I would definitely stay here again.eGuest review byelizabethUnited States - 8.8

Perfectly located apartment steps away from the Colosseum and across the street from Cavour Metro which gives access to all the amazing locations you MUST visit when in Rome. Area is quiet which allows for a good nights rest.JGuest review byJamesCanada - 9.0
Colosseum Street
The place had everything that we needed. It was comfortable and spacious for a family of four, including 2 giant teenage boys :)! The location is unbeatable, with the Colosseum just at the end of the street (you can see it from the door to the building) and the metro stop very close as well. Despite the proximity to the Colosseum, the apartment was very quiet. Perfect place to enjoy everything Rome has to offer! We would stay there again!VGuest review byVeroniqueUnited States - 9.4
Apollo Apartments Colosseo
The property was incredibly close to both the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, was clean and comfortable, with every need anticipated, and managed by a property manager who was a magnificent ambassador for the city of Rome and the nation of Italy, such that my wife and I made first reports to family and friends included our delight upon meeting such a wonderful person. Grazie mille Massimo!JGuest review byJohnUnited States - 9.5
Residenza Flavia
We had a lovely stay at Residenza Flavia in Rome. When we got to the apartment we were met right away to be handed the keys. The apartment was lovely and cool and extremely clean. It was a very spacious apartment too which was very nice for the 4 of us. It is right beside the Colosseum and on the subway line, so the location is excellent. Despite being right near the Colosseum, the neighbourhood is quiet at night, but walkable distance to busier areas. I would highly recommend this apartment for anyone travelling to Rome.JGuest review byJuliaCanada
