Staff great, friendly and helpful, pub lovely, room fine, loved the pictures on the walls in the pub, nice cosy areas in it. Beds really comfortable, and showers work really well. Lovely to have the snack options in the room, though we didn't partake. All in all, a pleasant stay.

We didn't say excellent because: we found the pillows a bit hard, the water was slow to drain away in the shower, we meant to report that but we forgot! The quiz night was on an App, which reduced the opportunity to fully enjoy it without taking part in it. The breakfast was good, though I felt the veggie sausages were floury and tasteless. None of these mean we wouldn't stay again though.

The cooked breakfast and dinner were good with fairly large portions and quick service (although there were hardly any other customers there!). The bedding was clean as were the bathroom facilities, although in need of refurbishment.

The hotel is in serious need of refurbishment with walls, carpets, skirting boards etc badly marked and dirty. The window in our room wouldn't shut properly which meant we couldn't shut out the noise of traffic which was quite loud and busy early morning and late at night. The hotel is situated on a busy road junction. We stayed for 3 nights and the room was only serviced once during this time meaning we had to ask for clean tea/coffee cups and additional tea and coffee sachets. There was no soap supplied in the room so we also had to ask for this. The online photos of this hotel are misleading, making it look a lot better than it actually is.

Spotlessly clean with a great location, staff quick to attend to any request, our room was checked every day by staff.

Nowhere to put bathroom items, no shelves at all and oddly no plug in the sink. No iron or hairdryer in the room, short on coat hangers, when we requested more hangers and a hair dryer it was dealt with quickly and without fuss.

Key instructions hadn't been updated despite calling the day before to check everything. Looks like you can park immediately outside property but would be good to see instructions so we don't unintentionally annoy the neighbours (lots of local restrictions to help residents with tourist parking) - how many cars can we take, where can we park?

Public areas were very tired and gloomy. Understaffed, so breakfast rather chaotic. Our room was a long way from reception, up and down stairs and slopes, lift out of order. The shower was over the bath, not walk-in, and water was tepid. Quality of breakfast was pretty poor, with buffet items not being replenished (or available at all!)

Large group bookings taking priority over individual stays. Monday informed no meals, only 24/7 menu available due to group booking. After complaining said they would open for normal menu after 19.00. Beds weren't made properly, only duvet pulled up. Our inner was right at the bottom all lumpy. Had to sort out inner ourselves.
