Beautiful location, stopped off on the way to Seahouses. We didn't have an evening meal, so we could not comment on that, but we found the most amazing pub/restaurant about a 5-minute walk away called The Fox Hole. The food was the best I've ever tasted. The staff at the hotel were brilliant and nothing too much trouble.

Unfortunately, they had not had a delivery of egg's, so this impacted the choice of breakfast 😕 Bit hard to have a full English without, although what we did have was ok. Also, only one flat pillow provided and the coffee sachets were all hard, so used my own that I had taken.

Deceptively spacious, fully equipped cottage, far better-provisioned than the name 'Hayloft' might imply. Large bathroom, comfortable bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen. Suitable for group or family holidays (up to four), couples or solo travelers and also ideal for working people. Parking in private courtyard. Very quiet.

The gate to the courtyard is very heavy. Once secured open, this occludes the steps to reach the property, and the gate has to be pushed shut again to allow access to the cottage. In theory, the occupant could be trapped behind the gate by other courtyard owners, and have difficulty extricating themselves. I am sure that there must be solutions to this (and sure the owner has considered the options).

It was tip top from the champagne reception, super pleasant staff and the extremely comfortable rooms. Breakfast good and location brilliant too.

The bedroom isn’t as advertised when booking. The room had a small double bed, £298 we thought it was executive or larger. The jacuzzi bath (3 dead flies included) doesn’t work. The remote control for tv was filthy, and tv signal aka freeview was sketchy, tea tray had pg tips, Nescafé sticks and sugar no biscuits. To check in we had to read a small a4 note on the local burrito cafe to check in. We had to ask about making sure we didn’t get the £100 fine the place seemed to threaten car owners. We were shown to an apologetic employee who stated they were no longer dealing with booking.com because of non payments after we had a stand off in their cafe stating we had paid for our room . Then when we got to our room we were told the wrong time for breakfast as the sheet said it was later for Saturday, and that we would had to eat in their burrito cafe but they will do proper breakfast. Well in the morning we went to breakfast greater by a friendly lady would we like tea or coffee. And would we like an English breakfast. That was it. No continental , or choice of cooked offerings including Italian as it states on booking.com. Only good thing was bean, bread was either slightly blow torched or dry fried flimsy in the middle. Mushrooms cooked in catering margarine, sausage full of gristle egg was ok. That was our offering ooh apart from breakfast. I asked for salt but got sauce then staff left. My stomach couldn’t digest most of it so was poorly. The next morning we went somewhere else but I wasn’t feeling well about 9am I got a call asking where i was as they were waiting for me for breakfast, I should have guessed no one ate there in the morning and the woman who served us left before we went out the burrito restaurant. For the next morning I made my partner give our excuses not to go there for breakfast as they have no idea what they are offering online to guests and clearly can’t deliver.
